D16z6

ok i'm about to get a pretty good deal for a motor. its the D16Z6 for $200 i wanted to buy it for a direct replacement on mine (knocking) but started to think about how can i modify my knocking motor into a gas sipping monster?! do i raise the compression? cam? what would i do with the bottom end? help me build my monster with your suggestions. :D

here's what i was thinking:

raise compression to about 10:1
buy a mild cam skunk stage 1 or 2
buy shorter rods, to make it a shorter stroke
and thats about it. anything else you guys would suggest?

what tranny are u going to be using?

Chip the ECU. Dual modes, switch on the fly, econo and performance. Get a wide band O2, chipped P28 and data logging. Go for aero mods and light rims. 38mpg is possible.

Shorter rods will only change you rod-to-stroke ratio, not your stroke. Changing the stroke requires a different crank, not something I'd consider worthwhile.

However, with that in mind, you can lower the "effective" displacement by using a custom ground Aktinson Cycle camshaft that leaves the intake valve open after BDC. This would allow you to build the engine with a much higher mechanical compression ratio (and greater efficiency) but without risking detonation. . .ala the Prius engine that has a 13.6:1 mechanical compression ratio yet runs on regular unleaded.

really? i thought it had a longer ratio? i noticed that at 60 mph yesterday i was dead on at 2500 rpms.

what about the hf (crx) fifth gear i heard that will drop me to 1500 rpm @ 60 mph
