Fuelly missing approximation of aveage speed?
If a vehicle says on this website that it has an average fuel economy of 15 km/liter. But not say how fast you were average were cruising. Then the data is not complete I think. Fuelly website should add information as : cruise / sport driving, Cruise speed average, etc. What do you think?
I myself drive a CB750 nighthawk. On Fuelly only registers "distance"/"amount of fuel" and I see a lot of 15 km/liter. But at what speed? If I cruise with 120 km /h then fuel economy drops to 15 km/liter perhaps. But depending on when you drive and how it changes dramatically. I cruise 80 km/h. My fuel economy is average 21 km/liter. That is an huge difference with Fuelly website data. |
The data comes from users figures. I drive at average speeds of 24 mph to 70 mph depending on the journey I am making. What you are asking for is impossible. It is hard enough getting users to put correct data in when all that is asked is the fuel used and distance covered

The city to highway mix is close to that info, but I don't think many track that.

My Daily Driver computes average speed, and users who have ScanGauges can list average speed. I think it is a useful metric, but would probably be misused. Many folks would enter "70" because they always drive around 70 on the highway, but your average almost never approaches your cruising speed.

I have a ScanGauge, and I used to record the info every time I filled up my tank (or occasional long trip). Although doing regular motorway driving my average of the average mpg over 150 recorded sessions was 33 mph. The highest was 42 mph (lowest for a mainly city driving trip was just 17 mph).

Yea it's not something you can just "guess" the results are always surprising. Regardless how or where I drive, I generally see 30-34 MPH average speed, probably because I do several hundred small urban trips at around 15-20 mph during the working week. I need me a plug in...

I used to track average speed, but stopped awhile ago.
