I don't have direct experience with traction control so I really shouldn't have comented but the logic makes sense.

Traction control and ABS, are basically dependent on wheel sensors at each wheel. They look a lot like a gear with a magnetic pickup that counts the teeth of the gear. Both systems look for differences in wheel RPM to do their jobs. One interrupts the brake application (abs control). The other applies brake to the spinning wheel to keep it's speed the same as the rest. (traction control).

Changing the tire size would make no real difference, but different diameter tires, on the same vehicle, would drive the system crazy.

https://www.camaro5.com/forums/images/smilies/iono.gif I know that it works with a "tone ring"-style sensor at each wheel and that matching tires shouldn't cause a problem even if they're a different size than original, but plenty of people report problems after putting on 4 new tires of a different size than original.

The only explanation I've ever been able to think of is that with large changes you're changing the whole scale on which it all works, so the system sees data in the wrong range and throws a code.

Like I said, practically speaking about the sizes in question here, that won't be an issue.

like you said, we are talking about a non-issue unless someone wants to increase outer diameter by %25+ like the rednek trucks. several people where I work have done that 32s...33s I think that is as crazy as it has gotten but these are all on jeeps without all of the fancy stuff.

their biggest problem is body roll. with the lifts and the tires, they went vertical but they have done little if anything to increase the width of their footprint. their COG has gone up. no high-G turns for them.

Keep your dad's stuff in some sort of order so the story can be passed down through the generations of your family.

If you dramatically increase tire diameter then the systems compensation applications may not have the range to properly apply the significant larger application of brakes or release of brakes to work properly.
