Check this out
I saw this story on the news...kinda interesting!
car sharing |
Lame, I like having my own car to see results from. It's useful for people that don't have cars and can't afford one at all though. Are you doing this?

I'm thinking about doing this. Don't know though, I'm not enjoying the motorcycle commute as much as people said I would.

At $6.-$12 per hour if you had to make a long interstate run and had one of the $6. an hour cars the owner of the company would come out losing since they are funishing the gas. At 60mph average and gas at $4. gal. the car would have to be getting 40 miles per gallon for the owners to break even on gas alone. This is if you were just making a run there and straight back with very little lay over time.

I think it's a great idea with a couple little hitches. the gas thing would be kind of hard to deal with especially since if you only burn off a gallon, that's 10 minutes of your hour you don't get plus it's easy for someone to not fill up their share and noone would notice till you have to fill up 2-3 gallons when you ought to have used 1.
the downside on the renters side would also mean someone can drive totally different cars from day to day and never get used to a car. the upside is they do see a fair cross section of vehicles so they know more about what they want for when they do finally get their own car. |
(they have to buy the car, maintain it, insure it, etc. etc. and then make a reasonable profit)[/QUOTE]
Your comment was my thoughts exactly. Read the article it says they even furnish the gas. Quoted from the article: The cost is around $25-$35 for an annual membership plus $6.-$12. per hour to rent the car, gas INCLUDED! |
The company would make little profit from this if you were determined to use the car for a long run or crazy agressive city driving. It sounds like a great idea as long as the company doesn't start to change their original plan of 6 - 12 dollars to meet demand of the gas market..... I'd do it!
