I have been reading with a lot of interest here and everyone runs FE cars with FI. Has any one here have worked on getting better gas mileage? I can see where a lot of have done works,but I have reservations about completely enclosing my engine compartment,I plan to move cross country where it really heats up in the summertime. Will this hurt the engine at all?

Be sure your fan is working properly and don't let it over heat and you shouldn't have any problem. If you don't have a temperature gauge it would probably be a good investment. Don't depend on an idiot light by the time they come on it's already boiling hot.

How does a HAI work I see everyone talking about it but I haven't found anything on how to build one.

If you have an older car you may already have it from the factory. My 81 Buick has it, and my 86 chevy truck has HAI and ram-air from the factory. What type of vehicle do you have?

They're all DIY, self-engineered. Most people run a duct past the exhaust manifold to get heat from there.

I have a 86 Caprice Wagon I just did my garage. I will have to go to a truck stop to weigh it.
Mine doesn't have it right now but will I'm also thinking about ram air set up or will this have a negative result?

Are there any picture galleries of the work people have done?

I have never actually seen one.

I believe an 86 Caprice has throttle body injection, with the exception of cars equipped with the police package. In all likelihood the computer will try to override anything your try to do.

No I wish it did,but they came with electronic carb that the ECM controls it's a Q-jet with out any adjustments.

What kind of car do you have? Does your car have an electric fan or a belt driven fan? If it has an electric fan, then you may be able to make a switch that turns the fan on when *you* want it to come on. In that way, you will be able to reduce your coolant temperature as you see fit.

Here in LA, we're getting record temps, so my partial grill block is making my coolant go up faster than I like.
