It's improving!
My FE is getting better... two consecutive 30mpg fill ups with mixed driving!! I know to you 40+ and 50+... and ever 60+ mpg members that 30mpg seems like nothing to be proud of, but I've put a lot of maintenance and work into the Satty over the past few months and its good to see it paying off.
I still haven't done my HAI, IATS mod, or any aero mods, and still don't have a scangauge. I'm planning all of that, so I'm shooting for a humble 36mpg average, but I'd be tickled to death with 38-40mpg average and 45mpg highway. Also in the works is me obtaining my motorcycle license. I went and nearly puchased an '01 Ninja 250R, since I was dragging my feet the guy sold the bike to someone else, but I'm still in the market! Here comes 70+ mpg!! Thanks to this site and members for the support and ideas that continue to help me feel so guilty about only getting 25mpg... haha it's the guilt that drives me! |
Congrats! We don't all have the same goals and reasons for our vehicles, but to see you happy about improvement is good!
If every American driver did this gas would be cut in half due to lack of demand. Keep on posting about your results! |
Congrats on the progress!
Post some numbers once you get the HAI installed. I'm considering that mod myself and would like to have something to compare to. Regards, Bill |
congrats
i actually could not squeeze over 33 mpg on my civic ex 4 door auto and as son as i got the scanguageII my mileage went up to 45mpg climbing passes!!! I really suggest you getting the scanguageII its worth its weight in gold |
congrats man, I definitely think a scangauge is worth it and the WAI is as well. the grill block is a good one too. I would get the scangauge first so that you can monitor temps. if the temps go up really fast then the dummy gauge in the dash won't react fast enough (usually).
I don't think you need to worry about IAT mods if you are going to do a WAI. you will actually be putting warm air into your car so you don't need to fool it into thinking there is warm air there. I started a thread on my WAI if you want to check it out. It does have a little controversy in it (some think it doesn't work). just search for "warm air intake is in" and check it out there are also pics in my garage and an updated one on that thread of mine. it isn't perfect but more a work in progress. |
Keep up the good work! It begins with a mind set, and you are on your way.

Thanks guys!!
To respond about the IATS mod, I'm planning to wire in a second to give some resistance, and relocate them closer to the throttle body on the TOP side of the air intake tube after the air filter. OEM location is in the front of the airbox below the air filter just behind the driver's headlight, it might as well be called an ambient air temperature sensor. I'm going to get in on the cleanmpg continuing group purchase on a scangauge very very soon! |
Yes, definitely keeping up on the maintenance is key, gratz.

Mine, too!
I'm new hear, but have had a HAI for about 3 weeks now. I just got
the digital thermometer modified and install last Sunday. Prior, I was running about 25-26 mpg averaging with 27 mpg best effort. Now, I am getting over 30. First tank was 31.2, then 34.4 then 30 mpg. These all represent varying degrees of combined driving with the last one mostly back a forth to work (about 3 mi.). Now that I can monitor the temp I realize I am barely 100 F by the time I get to work. I'm shooting for 40 mpg, with a instant on HAI. Red Green says,"I'm pullin' for ya. We're all in this together." bbanzai |
my scangauge is coming soon!! As soon as it gets here and I read the manual, the WAI and grill block go on, and if I'm happy w/ the results, I may toy w/ underbelly panels.
Good Luck to you bbanzai, what kinda car is this on? |
