Ultimately, it is incumbent on the motorist to yield to pedestrians![/QUOTE]

exception...

at the exact moment i was leaving the dock one morning in my multi-ton delivery truck, i saw(in my side mirror) a co-worker flying down the steps looking the other direction.

naturally i came to a controlled, COMPLETE stop when HE ran into my front fender. now that was a scream, especially since the only thing hurt was his pride!

2 things.
1. natural selection
2. if you aren't capable of seeing/hearing cars coming, ALL cars, maybe you shouldn't be out on the street unescorted

OK 3 things... pull off the hood, take the MP3 earbuds out, and look before you cross the street. there's a stretch in town by my dubbed the the frogger area because university's on one side, and a crapload of stores and apartments on the other side of a 5-lane highway and watching that stretch is like watching a game of frogger.

When Marvin's lifters aren't ticking and his belts and pulleys aren't squeaking.... he's very quiet just idling down the road, hydraulic lash adjusters, you can usually hear the tire noise before you hear the motor. It's only really been a problem on quiet residential streets where you get the ipod wearing cyclist weaving all over the middle of the road, thinking nothing is around.... which is where I'll drop it into first gear and scare the crap out of him from the growl.

I scared the hell out of a customer coming out the back door of the bank next door to our store a couple days ago.....I'm in the habit of turning off my VX after I enter the alley to get to my parking spot behind our store. It is REAL quiet, unless the stereo is cranked....I saw him and hit the brakes, he didn't even look until I was about 2 ft away. Prolly had to go home and change his drawers...his vertical jump was very impressive!

When non horse powered vehicles were first allowed on some streets it was required that someone walk ahead of them with a set of flags to warn people so they wouldn't get run over, and horses wouldn't get spooked...

So far we aren't running low on people, but we do have more stupid people then ever and if quite cars get rid of stupid people I think we need more quite cars.

I know one of the hybrids is equipped with a speaker to make car noises in europe, I wish I knew the link to the article as it gave me a good chuckle.
