Explorer 4.0's Owner From Pa

Hey ya'll just introducin myself, I'm from Pa. I have two trucks a 92 Explorer Sport 4X4 4.0 OHV motor and a 96 xlt automatic with same motor but is 160HP and is automatic and 4X4 too. Keep trying to think of new ways of improving my MPG too. And stumbled upon this site from another member that is a member of the explorer forum. Any way's HI!!!

I'll be quite interested to see how your Explorers improve their MPG. My dad is on his second one now, and we also live in the same region. I know he doesn't generally get better than 18mpg (and he has a 99 awd auto v6 4dr).

Welcome to the board.

v6 Explorers didn't come with the AWD option only the V8 Explorers did. I get around 22 with my 92 sport 5spd, and around 18-20 with the 96 auto

Uhh...yeah there was a guy on there said his truck was getting 35 mpg or something, I dont know how true that is, I don't think he ever did tell us how he did it. But Aldive on the explorer forum had made his own Thread awhile back dedicated to finding routes to making his explorer more fuel efficient.

TeamExploder -

Welcome to GS! Yeah, optimizing your route and the time you drive helps.

I think it isn't called AWD but it has some type of traction sensing ability to engage awd only when it needs it. True-trac maybe? I really don't know.

I'll have to ask him what mileage he's getting now. I think he said it was a bit better than his 94 XLT auto.

Ok, your dads is 4X4 with Control-Trac. but yeah you can have it auto/4X4 Hi/4X4 Low but does engage when one of the rear wheels spin
