92 Civic VX 5 wire Oxygen sensor question
Hey guys great stuff hear. I found you looking to fix a problem with my VX.
The other day I got the CEL code 41. I noticed at the same time that The engine shift light stopped working, there seems to be more power all the time, the idle speed is over 1000 RPM and after filling the tank I went from averaging 47 MPG to 35 MPG but expect it to be less this time. I found that the code points to the O2 sensor but almost fell out of my chair when I saw the price of over $400. I did find one on ebay for $190 + $7 shipping. Still a lot when you are cheap. I guess what I am asking is does this sound like the problem or could it be the ECU. I have seen where some said use a DVM to test voltage on D this or D that but I have no idea where those are. I can work with colored wires better. Great site. I was looking for a small car when I got my VX and had no idea what I had bought. Love the car. |
First off, welcome to the board! Glad to see another VX owner here.
The info for checking the O2 with the DVM/DMM can be found HERE. The wiring diagrams show that D14 is an orange with blue stripe and D16 is a blue with green stripe wire. These wires are located on the far right connector once the ecu is orientated like the picture in the post. And yes, it does sound like an O2 problem. And your best bet for L1H1 O2 sensors (the ones the VX uses) are on Ebay. The $190 +shipping is a great price for them these days. |
Cool. Is GS becoming the "go to" place for VX specifics?
|
Todd, I updated the VX General Tech post with wire colors and more info than you can shake a stick at.
Metro: I believe GasSavers is the new "go-to" place for VX info! Performing a Google search for anything VX related is showing more and more posts from here. Maybe we should sub-title the site as VXSavers.org? :D |
Ok, Just wanted a 2nd opinion before spending the money. I will post back if this fixes the problem.

It does sound like you need a new sensor. However, I was wondering if you can't just purchase a 5 wire Bosch sensor, for an Audi, Nissan or something of that sort? I found new 5 wire unit's for $55 at an eBay store called Global-Automotive.

I thought this site was interesting.
https://techedge.com.au/vehicle/wbo2/wbntk.htm There are some links to sources for the L1H1 O2, this one seems like a pretty good deal. https://www.oxygensensor.net/parts/o2parts/L1H1.html -- Scott |
Got the sensor and it fixed my Check engine light.
Thanks for the help |
Great! Glad to help out.
