Figured I would introduce myself. I've been lurking here for a while and finally posted. Great reading here.

Welcome! I find it interesting that you got your truck from Kamsack Saskatchewan... only a few hours from where I live. Why did you go all that way for your truck?
|
I actually saw your profile the other day and noticed you were from Regina. Thats were I landed 7/4/4. You were having a coldsnap that week (high 40's). The next day I took a 4 hour bus ride to Kamsack to get the truck.
As far as the truck I needed some very specific items. Pre 1994 bodystyle (easier to work on and looks like a real pick-up). It had to be 1991.5-1993 (they were intercooled), 89-91.5 had no intercooler Absolutely had to be a manual, have a/c, less then 200,000 miles, not have dual wheels in the rear and no rust. So it really became a chore to find one. I found a few but wound up going to Kamsack. |
Happen to have any performance specs for your truck? Like city/highway fuel economy, horsepower, torque, 0-60 acceleration?
I must say, I'm rather fond of the body style it has. |

160 hp/400 lbs of torque I haven't dyno'd it yet. The best mileage I got was 23 highway. I average around 20. I know I can get 25+ with tranny/engine mods. My goal is 30mpg. 3.54 rear end gears. If I get enough cash I'm going to try to get a quickchange rear and get 3.07's or 2.77's. I can probably get 25 mpg by just advancing the timing. Well Ted, yes and no. 1972-1993 Dodges look identical except for the headlights/grills and are brickshaped. The "classic" pickup. 94 and above are more aerodynamically shaped and look "new". My truck rides like my 1973 pick-up did, its basically a farm vehicle. Today they are comfortable. "Remember me when you look into the night sky......." I love that movie btw |
Should we assume from your affinity for farm vehicle aesthetics, you're not going to Phil Knoxify your truck? ;)
Welcome to the site. |
oh.....its getting the "knoxification" alright. I've been looking at his and the one at maxmpg and I'm going to try to shoot for for more of a Prius or Insight shape. I was actually thinking of using the fastback from a 1966 charger for a while. I thought it would be sweet and I could still have real glass.
The game is still aerodynamics. I can save money on building big horsepower by spending money on aero mods first. Plus I love the idea of a full size Insight |

I actually think this is a very noble effort. The fact is, pwople will still drive trucks. Just think how many gallons could be saved if all the trucks got better mileage. Small cars could double their mpg and still not be as much.
