Does the Fuelly version work outside of cellular areas

Guys...

I was travelling in outback Australia in areas where there is no mobile phone reception. I found that I could not enter any fuel fillups via the free version of the Fuelly App in these areas - is this normal? Does this free app work in remote areas?
