450,000 mile Tesla
 

Interesting to see just how low the running costs are. On its third battery, although seems the second one was faulty. Hasn't held up too badly considering Al the build quality issues you hear about with Teslas.

Interesting report. It doesn't sound like a lot when you say 6 cents a mile but $27k is a huge number in a relatively short time span.

Not considering the mileage though. I kept track of everything in one of my previous cars, including tax, insurance, fuel, servicing, maintenance and repairs and depreciation, it cost me exactly the same to cover just 58,000 miles, and that car had a small displacement engine on 1.4 litres.

I am quarter the way to that cost, running my Jazz for 25,000 miles over three years!

Maybe I misunderstood. If that includes insurance and all recharging costs etc. too it's not quite so bad. I understood it was just maintenance/repairs and insurance etc. would have been added. I'll have to check it out again.

Even a diesel would require high cost engine rebuilding after that, my friend's van had a full engine rebuild at 536,000 miles with 25,000 mile oil changes. His annual fuel costs alone are close to the figure quoted for the 450,000 mile costs. Crazy differences.

On the flip side, if the Tesla was out of warranty, the cost for two new batteries would be around $50,000 at current prices if I'm not mistaken. I'm sure by the time most people will need to replace them though, the cost will be a fraction of that.

They reckon the normal motorist will get 20+ years from a battery. Tesloop vehicle was Supercharged throughout its life. This shortens battery life.

Yep, they did a 100% charge everytime apparently instead of the recommended 80%. The New Leaf only allows a certain amount of rapid charges a day doesn't it, as the battery doesn't have thermal management. That's why its a bad choice for taxi drivers. Another reason I hate the new leaf...

This is a great video, I'm always surprised when someone makes a video on how much electric cars cost to own / run.
