MODEL 3 INTRODUCTION / Anyone else watch?
 

Was it the $44k model that went 300+ miles? I forget the exact mileage.

If the current EV purchasing trend continues, enough EVs will be sold to reduce oil demand by 2 million barrels a day by 2023. This same reduction caused the 2014 oil over supply crisis, which caused gas prices to tumble.

Interesting times.

Am I the only one who remembers?

$35000 for the standard 220 mile range 0-60 in 5.6 second version, and about $40000 for the 300 mile range 0-60 in 5.1 second version. The best value car in its class for the performance, and it's an EV, talk about game changer and with almost 400,000 pre orders, possibly the most pre ordered product in history thus far? Not to be sniffed at by any means.

The model 3 is definitely something I'll consider in a year or two. I don't have the patients to put a deposit down now and wait almost 2 years or more, and they haven't officially released the UK pricing structure yet. The higher spec model will, I should imagine, be less than £40,000 to avoid the recent "luxury car" tax.

As soon as Level 5 self-driving is legalized, I'm ALL in. My roundtrip daily commute is 90 minutes. Having that much leisure time returned to me is worth the $35k.

By the time Level 5 is allowed, there will likely be cheaper EVs, too. Or, at least, I can buy a used Model 3.

I am leaning toward the Tesla, because of their nationwide charging network. Don't forget, you're NOT buy just great economy and performance. You're buying into the family of chargers.

$30k might have been a target for the Model 3 at one time, but Tesla stated $35k starting when they opened up the reservation list.

I don't recall the exact price, but there was a 40kWh option for the Model S when reservations were started that was around that $50k price. Tesla got so few reservations for it that they just cancelled it though. The people that wanted one got a 60kWh pack that was software limited to 40kWh for the 40kWh price.
