"3 wheeled cars"

https://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...284986028&rd=1

So I found that link..

I can see it now, those chinese made (I highly suppose) "cars" having 3 wheels to be registred as a motorcycle thus evading any crash laws...invading us slowly and slowly....now that oil prices are a hot topic!

AHH!!!

It gets me everytime!! Why do they always use that design when it pretty much sucks!!!

Put two wheels in front and on in the back!!!! not the other way around!!!

Yes the aerodynamics will be better with a tadpole trike, but for carrying/accessing a load two in the back seems to work better.

I think you only need about a third the components on the front end for single wheel steering vs 2 wheel.

I actually started a thread about these things. here is a link to the web site.

https://www.wildfirevehicles.com/What...ew_models.html

I talked to a guy from the web and he said they started around 7K. he also pointed out that you could flip them over if you take a hard corner and the weight is distributed wrong.

I have all but talked myself out of these for a lot of reasons. A/C is not an option and with 26hp, I don't think you could put one on it period.

it is still a neat idea.

Speaking of 3 wheelers- I would like to take a small old motorcycle (like my 305 Kawasaki) and put a log sidecar on it and then move all the controls into the sidecar so the driver and passenger could ride recumbent, bobsled style- then cover the whole thing with an aerodynamic skin.

The biggest worry would be a side impact... Statistically, I wonder which side is more likely to be hit in a side impact that is not the struck driver's fault?

I've heard that the driver instinctively tries to protect himself, so the passenger side is more likely to be sacrificed.

I gotta have 4 wheels under me.

Just my opinion, of course.

I'm thinkin' that over-revving it could be a seriously disturbing event. I hope that driver seat cushion is shielded with Kevlar!

Personally, I like this idea.

Tri-magnum - Homebuild using R.Q.Riley Plans

I've been looking in on his plans for years, hoping he'd base something on anything other than VW parts. Up here they're not so common as in the rust free south and west. So then when he's got some new designs they're based on Subaru parts, gah! Subaru's are also kind of rare around here, the nearest dealerships are a 2 hour drive away and there's none to pick over in the yards. Even the Subarus I see around are usually no more than 5 years old or so, so don't know if they even sold the older models anywhere round here.

The XR-3 is based on a more generic mix of parts starting with a VW transaxle and Kubota diesel.

Frankly, I think there is so much diversity in the options for his design that it boggles the mind. Just look at the basic structure of it: A front suspension subframe and motor mounting that bolts up to steel box frame backbone. It is about as simple as it gets. Everything else can be mixed and matched to suit your needs or parts availability.

I say pick your favorite little car and hack the front suspension/steering out, build the rest. Pretty sure you can use FWD parts without the drive train attached to it.

I think Peugoet's 20Cup is an excellent illustration of tadpole possibilities.

Basically you just find a front clip from your preferred econobox and fab up the rest from the firewall back.
