How many miles do you have on your car/truck?
As i search for a civic as a gas saver (a VX to be exact) i find that most of the civics i look at have massive miles. Now i know that Hondas can run forever if maintained but I'm just curious how many miles do you guys have on your vehicles, original engines im speaking?

Ill start out with my 1994 Chevy truck with 201K.
Just normal maintenance repairs, radiator, water pump, etc. |
I have 227k miles, and drive about 23k miles a year. I replaced a few things along the way, like the oil pump, water pump, crank +rod bearings, valvestem seals and valvesprings. But it's still original! :) Still on the same pistons, rings, valves and headgasket. As a sportscar it's led a hard life.
|
Over 337K miles on my VX and it's the original drivetrain.
|
Focus (damn thing just won't sell...) has 45k miles on it, bike has 8300mi.
The Mustang just turned over 97k on the body, and IIRC 5K miles on the drivetrain. |
I have 248,600 miles on my VX, I bought it a little less then 3 years ago with 204,000 miles from a guy who only did oil changes, replaced tires, and exaust and had owned it for 100,000 miles, I assume he never changed the tranny oil because at 232,000 miles the main bearing wore out, the engine has perfect compression, body has a little rust but nothing bad, overall I really like the car and assume that this car will last me 10s of thousands more miles.

1998 Jetta TDi. Haven't begun driving it yet, but if the numbers people are posting on tdiclub are any indication, I will eventually be joining the high rollers club. My poll answer was for my TDi, which has about 120k on the odo.
|
about 82K on my 02 Cavalier. Purchased at 21K; just replaced tires, brakes and a battery (not counting grill block, underscreen, wheel skirts, air dam, under hood hot air intake and filter reroute).

My Nissan Bluebird ('Bluey') : 177,000 miles or there abouts. Was fine with doing a LOT of EOCing (e.g. 10 mile commute, maybe 40-60 starts each way) :D Stopped driving because I came to NZ. Plan to bring her over sometime.
My original Nissan Bluebird (1.8 Auto) about 240,000 miles, original transmission, managed to run with no oil a few times, no water a few times, etc etc, managed to blow head gasket by driving around for 60 miles with temp above 'high' on the temp gauge, shoddy replacement = only lasted another 90,000 miles, leaking oil/water externally, then finally blew a waterway while driving (huge amounts of white smoke, but engine still ran fine). I still have this car and will, one day, bring over to NZ, and restore it. My current Nissan Bluebird (Bluey II) - about 103000 miles - nearly brand new :) |
Wrangler's got 55k original engine, new tranny + clutch.
Insight's has 230k original everything |

The E350 has 250k. Doesn't get driven very often, but when it gets out, it tows. Our other cars are at 97k and 63k. Not a lot really. Will probably be the first cars our kids drive. |
My CRX HF has 193K. Starts everytime and doesn't burn any oil. I get the feeling it would run forever.
|
114K and climbing...
Rick |
149K on the VX and 93k on the gas guzzling F150 SuperCrew.

Last car was the 88 cressida with 145k when I sold it.
Current car is a 90 cressida with 125k on the body and 175k on the engine. (got it with a blown engine for cheap. got the higher mileage engine for free) Next car/daily driver while the cressida gets rebiult w/ new engine is a 87 S10 pickup with 105k I have the bad habit of buying ****ty not-maintained cars for cheap and blowing the cost of the same car in top condition updating the maintenance so in the end I spend the same as if I bought a good condition car. the S10 I'm getting from a friend who I did all the update-maintenance for before I buy it :-p |
i have/had several GM cars w/ well over 100k miles, original drivetrain. all of them still drove like new. currently, all four of our GM cars are over 100, but less than 150.
|
Over 460,000 miles. Replaced the stock engine with a more powerful engine at 245,000 miles, but the transmission, clutch, and shocks are all original.
|
Tepco -
Just reached 150K miles last week. Bought used at 36K miles. This is the first time I've had a car over 120K, so it's new for me. I am shooting for at least 200K, and I'll re-evaluate the car at that time. CarloSW2 |
Our 94 vx has 124K. I replaced the original o2 sensor and timing belt when I bought it at 112K.
Our 92 chevy 1500 W/T (basic chevy pickup) with the 4.3 v6 and 5 spd has orig engine and tranny at 159K. |
Keep them coming, great to hear these high miles cars.

Im looking at a 1989 Civic HB DX with 213K that broke the timing belt, one owner. I think even if the valves got bent a replacement used head is cheap. Hopefully i should get the car on the road for a total cost of $200 which includes the cost of the car. And with the miles I'm seeing here i should get another 100k out of it, if i pick it up. |
I'll break 235,000 on my 94 Civic DX probably next week. Original engine, updated CX/VX tranny and clutch disc. Hope to get to 300,000 or more.

1995 s-10 has 140K on it, stock everything beside starter (decided to die at 120K)
chevette has only 61K on it, BUT its 28 years old now...but all origional driveline stuff. we dont own a car that has under 100K on it thats driven regularly...(besides my chevette but its old and prolly wasnt regularly driven if its only gained 61 K miles in 28 years, ive put about 8-9K miles on it myself in the last 2 -3 years) |
251,000 miles on the 87 Civic (replaced radiator, 3 wheel bearings, head gasket, front seal, starter, water pump, alternator brushes) the guy who owned it before me said the clutch had been replaced
253,000 miles on the 92 Nissan 240SX (replaced the water pump, valve cover gasket, starter, all brakes several times, clutch master cylinder replaced twice, clutch). I've owned this car for 8 years and put 135,000 miles on it since I've bought it. Uses no oil. 14,000 miles on the 87 Kawasaki In case anyone is wondering, I use Walmart "Supertech" oil in all my vehicles. |
1990 Civic DX Sedan - 271,XXX miles.
Second engine (first replaced due to dropped valve), and converted from auto to manual transmission, so the entire power train has been replaced. |
My 99 Ply yoyager has 164,000 miles. Tranny has been done, wheel bearings, brakes. I've been using the car since June 07 123,000 miles when I started filling in for the previous owner. I bought it in Nov 07 with 154,000 miles and have put 10,000 miles on it, in only 2 months. My gas bill for Dec was close to $600 bucks. Just look at my Gas log.
99 Ford Crown Vic Police Car. 184,000 miles on original engine and tranny. Which is a Miricle for one of these. I bought it with just over 100,000 and the car has had a bunch of stuff replaced, but the car has been very good. I swapped to 2.73 rear end and the car gets 28+mpg on the Highway. John |
Bought my '92 VX new in Feb. of '92. It now has 352,000 miles and still is averaging 47 mpg's.
|
I joined what is the majority group of 100-150k
My '96 Saturn is the 1.9L DOHC at 138k (timing chain making some noise... knock on wood, I'd like to sell this for the SOHC 5-speed SL1 or SC1) My '94 Camaro Z28 is at 136k, mileage wont move much on this car as all I do is SCCA it. Last year I only racked up 1500 miles. This year I might see 3,000 total between making events in Cincinnati as well as Lexington and Sparta, KY. My other '94 Z28 was at 131k when sold a few months ago. I'm looking at buying a Chrysler Conquest TSi which has 133k Guess I like the 130's? :) |
1999 2500 has 84,000
1998 Regal has 98,000 and my 1994 Metro has 150,000 I wouldnt be surprised if the Metro is the last one to break down. |
2000 monte has 143000
1990 k1500 has 314000 |
I bought my vx w/238k on it. Engine smoked a little bit, so I pulled it. It still ran fine and got amazing mileage, as it should.
W/just some rings, and maybe some valve seals, I'm sure that motor would have been good for a lot more miles. I'm still running the tranny which now has over 250k mi on it. THe input shaft bearing is starting to chatter when it's cold, so it's about time for that to be replaced. The reason they input shaft bearing always goes bad in the D series trannies, is due to they are the highest bearing in the case, take a lot of stress and heat, and when the tranny fluid gets at all low, it's the first to be affected. THankfully it's a real easy replacement job which requires no special tools at all. |
I've got 169K on my CRX HF. Runs great and with regular maintance it will run forever. I just picked up a few tune up pieces at the Honda dealer while I got my $9.95 oil change there this afternoon! :)
If you guys are interested take a look at https://www.hondabeat.com/highmiles.php for some seriously HIGH mile Honda stories. |
Bought my '91 Civic DX with 135k on it. Now has 261k. Replaced the timing belt once (regular maintenance, it's due for another one) and had to replace the distributor. Engine and 5MT are original. Runs great. Doesn't burn oil. Florida car so the body is still good.
I've got a rusted-out '91 LX (with 225k on it) ready to donate a drivetrain if anything happens. |
308k on my 1990 crx original engine...2nd transmission, though i must add it was only the bearings that were bad in the transmission, mostly because i never changed the transmission oil.
i'm looking to hit 400,000 miles then buy a S2000 as my reward. They should be cheap enough for me by then. :D |
My '89 CRX HF has 238K miles on the original engine (and original trans as far as I know)....the car runs great. Big thing with the Honda 5-speeds to look out for is the transmission bearings, since people love to beat them.
**On an even better note, my '88 300zx Turbo SS has 280K miles on it...with the original engine (and original turbo), original trans...and even original CLUTCH !! The car still runs great & pulls hard. |
94 VX just turned 224K last week.
95 Chevy truck @205K. 94 Jeep 170K. |
well 2nd thing decided to take a dump or was about to. alternator bearings wer egettin noisey so i was goign to just replace those, till i noticed the field coil shelac on the wire was flakign off, inotherwords just asking for a short then it frys...
so i got a rebuilt with lifetime warranty for $100 and its been fine. |
My 1991 Geo has 164k...still going strong, uses maybe a quart and a half between oil changes. Only leak is from left seal on the transaxle, I probably nicked the seal changing the axle.
Best GM car...1979 Chevette...sold it at about 260k and it still ran. Most GM cars I've had died around 150k. Highest mileage I've owned: 1985 Lincoln Continental...w/Ford 302 engine...went 400k then finally wore out. But it got 20+ mpg... |
