Got an even 40mpg on my SG on the way home today, and I even touched 42mpg before I climbed the hill to my house. That makes for 34.4 on the day. Yesterday was good for 31.2mpg. That's brought the tank up to 27 so far, again all pending the accuracy of the SG.

I just did a long trip, mostly all highway, coasted as much as I could; A/C on most of the time, but at a setting of 78 degrees.
Result: 20.77 MPG. Yeah! I feel pretty good for an unmodified V8 w/ 4WD. Here's to everybody's continued success! |
49.9 Mpg
Hello -
This is not anywhere near an all-time best MPG, but it demonstrates the 5th gear in action : MPG : 49.9 Route : 10 West -> 710 South -> 105 West -> 405 South -> Exit Freeway Miles : 28.4 MPH Avg: 50 MPH Max : 64 RPM Max : 2250 Gallons : 0.6 IAT Reading : Hot Air Intake led to Input Air Temp readings of 120 degrees F or less. Net Elevation Change : ~210 feet drop Weather(.com) : Temperature : 77 degrees F Description : Clear/Fair Humidity : 52.5% Humidity, Dew Point : 57.5 degrees F Time : ~11:30 PM to ~12:00 AM, ~30 minutes Recent Car Changes : 5th gear swap. Hypothesis : I never get as good MPG at night because the air is colder and more humid and I feel like I am being "pushed" by the faster night time traffic. However, compared to my other run, the MPH average is the same, so it really must be mostly the weather. The big thing to notice is the RPM drop compared to the last run. I think that if I can have a hot + dry + slower speed traffic day, I could get the most of the gear change. We'll see. RPM Drop : 64 MPH max and 63 MPH max are almost the same. 2250 RPM divided by 2589 RPM is 0.869 => 87% => 13% drop in RPMs. Quote:

Greetings to everyone!
My best value is 50 mpg. I'll add other data that I consider relevant, next time. |
It has been a fun run.
I am driving my car 60-65 mph on the freeway again and using it on more short trips. My goal was 60 mpg using the car this way but the fill did not quite make it. 648 miles, 10.91, 59.39 mpg. The 60-65 P&G on the freeway can net about 65 mpg but the short trips are killing me. I need a different strategy for those. Still 59 mpg is an okay number. I think I need front skirts and lean burn. I have the equipment, just need to take the time.

I've had a pretty good day so far! This is a picture of my first set of 6 pegged 5-minute bars!:

Impressive, Larry. What a fun car that must be to drive. I've been tooling around the past 2 days in a family friend's Camry hybrid and it sure is nice how much of the hypermiling techniques are taken care of by the computers. Computers which are more or less at the beck and call of your right foot (and the gear lever, in the Camry hybrid, for N glides).

I've actually been throwing the Prius in N lately once I get into a glide. There is significant evidence to show that there is less current draw than when it's left in gear so it doesn't drain the State of Charge as fast.

57.2 Mpg
Hello -
Not a personal best, but I like that the car performed well in colder conditions. Here's the info : MPG : 57.2 (best is 58.6, so a 2.4% decrease) Route : 10 West -> 710 South -> 105 West -> 405 South -> Exit Freeway Miles : 27.7 MPH Avg: 49 MPH Max : 66 RPM Max : 2263 Gallons : 0.5 IAT Reading : Hot Air Intake led to Input Air Temp readings of around 120 degrees F. Net Elevation Change : ~210 feet drop Weather(.com) : 77.5 degrees F, Partly Cloudy, 49.5% Humidity, 54.5 degrees F Dew Point Time : ~11:00 AM to ~11:30 AM, ~30 minutes NOTE : The weather data is 2+ hours after the drive. Soooo, I think it was cooler when I did the actual drive. Recent Car Changes : The 5th gear swap and tires raised from 45 to 50 PSI. The EFIE is online but it is most likely not being accounted for in the ScanGauge algorithm. Hypothesis : The 5th gear swap and the traffic. Overall, I think that the 5th gear swap is a wash on the freeway because I use the pulse and glide driving technique. My taller 5th gear means I take more time to pulse up to my glide speed, so the end result, IMO, is the same. It was warm outside, but not like full summer. It's hard to explain, but I think that today, the traffic was good for my 5th gear swap. I really really really need to have a datalogger to make concrete conclusions. Quote:

I drove to work today with my 7" lcd stuck into a cupholder (that topic over HERE). I have discovered that I appear to have a bad thermostat, as my engine temp was sitting at 162 on the way home this morning and was at 158 tonight when coming to work (I assume that these thermostats are like normal ones and come in at ~180)
I am at 180 miles about halfway between 1/2 and 3/4 tank. Feeling pretty good right now :). This is my last day of work before my four days off, so hopefully after those four days I will have my lcd in the dash and my computer all set up in the car and won't be using this laptop. |
