This sounds like fun. Can I join? I'm not offended if not selected :) , I would use the caprice, thats the only car I am driving now. The Ford ZX2 I am trying to sell for three weeks now, so it is being parked.

caprice 06-02-2007 04:50 AM

Question: should I use my chassis EPA ratings, or the motor? The motor would be the equivalent to a 1989 or 1990 Police-Caprice, because those are still the box body, with a TBI engine.

I think you use the original configurations. SVO is that what we came up with when folks started modding their cars way back when?

Fourthbean 06-02-2007 06:43 AM

I think using the original EPA adjusted for 2008 values would be the logical solution as another engine is simply a bigger modification to the car. Just like an air dam or something :) That's what the logic in my head says anyway.

Of course I couldn't find any EPA numbers on my car, I just guessed :(.

Caprice, I would love to have you on the team. That would put this team as having 3 tanks made before 1989 :).

------------
TEAM 6: "Right Lane Rollers"
------------

Fourthbean (Team Captain) ... Old Chevy Boat ... '63 Chevrolet Bel Air ...

Jim Dunlop ... Jimmy's Daily Driver ... '02 Saturn SL ...

RaccoonJoe ... The Rolling Brick (Julie) ... '89 Jeep Cherokee ...

lxmike ... Lil Silver ... '99 Ford Escort ...

caprice ... Caprice ... 1985 Chevrolet Caprice Classic ...

Fourthbean 06-02-2007 06:55 AM

Looks like everything is in line. Is everyone okay with "Right Lane Rollers" as the team name? If not, speak up now! :) I will submit the team to the commish when we verify the team name is acceptable.

caprice 06-02-2007 07:31 AM

I vote it stays, heck yeah! its a pretty cool name, IMO:cool:

Hi there, I'm interested in joining this fuel economy challenge. It sounds pretty interesting. What do I need to do here to join a team?

Jim Dunlop 06-05-2007 02:54 AM

"Right Lane Rollers" is (are?) very cool.

I realized I was reporting Combined incorrectly. Originally for some reason I hadn't seen that Combined EPA is shown for my car via the link posted.

Bill in Houston 06-11-2007 06:23 AM

Anyone still looking for a team? Looks like the Leftover Bananas may be one banana short of a bunch...

bbgobie 06-11-2007 10:50 AM

I'd be interested in Joining
2002 Acura RSX AUTO - 2 Dr
I just double checked the link. Old EPA MPG 24 city, 33 hwy, 27 combined
New is 21 city, 30 hwy, 24 combined . And I am now confused, which one are we supposed to enter in our garage? If its the new, I think i'm now a hypermiler, although that seems to easy.

Cant figure out what the Mason Dixon line, is that some sort of statistic??

CO ZX2 06-12-2007 07:56 AM

bbgobie wrote: Cant figure out what the Mason Dixon line, is that some sort of statistic??

bb, Mason-Dixon Line is located between Maryland and Pennsylvania. In the rules to provide 2 team members from the north, which usually experiences more FE unfriendly weather than the south.

FE Team Challenge is using the new EPA estimates, so you should update your garage numbers.

Just updated my garage numbers, Now a hyper miler!
That seems too easy...

s2man 06-12-2007 09:41 AM

Bill in Houston, I'm located in Kansas City, and I've got a fodo with an A/T. Would I be useful on your team? My Low RR tires were delivered yesterday, and I bought plugs, wires, coil and O2 sensor for a good tuneup. I'm ready to see what I can do with this thing.

SVOboy 06-12-2007 09:59 AM

Hehe, mason-dixon line. Does anyone find it odd that the "south" begins at maryland?

Yeah. I do. I think of Kentucky as a northern state. Part of Ohio or something. So for Maryland to be the "south" is inconceivable.

BUT I knew a guy from New Jersey, and to him, people from Maryland were hillbillies.

Bill in Houston 06-12-2007 04:33 PM

Looks like bbgobie was first to strike and will be grafted on to the Leftover Bananas.

s2man, hopefully someone will pick you up soon. Sounds like you are going to do well.

s2man 06-26-2007 05:55 AM

It looks like I'm going to join Team OPEC Busters. It sounds like fun, and I'm looking forward to it. I hope to do well since I've got an unmodified car with lots of room for improvement. ;-)

I've determined my speedometer is off by 2%, so I will go back and adjust my gas log before the next cycle starts, to show an accurate baseline.

Coast on,
S2man

Bill in Houston 06-26-2007 06:40 AM

The Leftover Bananas will be seeking new members. If you would like to join for the next cycle, make sure to post here.

brucepick 06-28-2007 01:14 PM

I can join. Should be a new round starting some time early July??

I'm driving an auto, North of Mason Dixon, 5 doors (wagon).

Bill in Houston?? Or anybody else?

Bill in Houston 06-28-2007 04:49 PM

send a PM to odieturbo.

Who wants to be a banana? Come join the bunch! :)

As Bill in Houston said, just PM me!

brucepick 06-29-2007 06:26 AM

OK, I'll be a Banana. I've been called worse.
How about Hot Bananas? Slippery Bananas? (aero reference)
Not sure how I feel about being a leftover, with all due respect.

OdieTurbo 08-20-2007 06:20 PM

Time to re-awaken this old thread! Team Leftover Bananas is looking for another member!!! Mr. usedgeo is leaving us, god rest his sould (he's not dead, just dropping out ;) ). Please reply if you'd like to join!

Bill in Houston 08-21-2007 04:39 AM

Oh, I would have come back to you guys, but I got picked up by another team first... :-(

Rick Rae 08-21-2007 05:08 AM

OdieTurbo, if you can't find anyone else and time gets short I can give it a go to help you guys out. But I'm...
  • ... a couple weeks short of having my 90-day average, so I dunno if I'm even eligible yet.
  • ... not sure you'd want another A/T on the team.
  • ... clueless as to how much improvement in my numbers I can offer, if any.
Two door, gas, A/T, South of the M/D line.

Rick

Wow! 22 highway! My '88 9C1 I never ever got more than 11MPG out of it (that was the 350 with managed quadrajet). I can't believe it's rated at that with new numbers. That's what I got in my slippery '92 9C1 on the highway which I thought was incredible.

Good luck to you sir.

Also, not the place to ask but, what is required to join, as above it sounds like you need to have a 90 day ave for baseline. Also the 'challenge' is a teams improvment in a given leg (or month?) since the last leg? Does that mean one should hold off and do one aeromod per month? Or is this supposed to be fully modded cars and testing driver improvement?

I just joined and I'm still playing with my baseline and slowly checking off a huge list of mods with each gas tank (to get some measure of what helped where), but I would be interested in participating eventually, since I drive like it's a game now anyway and attempt to out do myself when I can, though I should really get a scangauge or some kind of gauge before hand so I can really improve.

'2 door' ;) A/T north of mason-dixon.

Welcome to the team Rick!

Fourthbean 08-28-2007 10:56 AM

itjstagame, we are in need of another team member, I just glanced through the rules and do not see anything about having to have 90 days worth of gas log entries to start. Here is what I read from the sticky:

"Any GS member with a vehicle listed in the Garage, with an active Gaslog, can join a team as decided by the Team Captain, at any time, providing the vehicle and member’s location satisfies all requirements listed. (New Teams may form similarly, with one member assigned “Team Captain” (role defined further)."

If anyone finds something that says otherwise please let me know, would rather know now than later :).

If you would like to join the "Right Lane Rollers" let me know and we can get you in the game!

Rick Rae 08-28-2007 11:45 AM

itjstagame, it sounds like you're good to go based on what Fourthbean quoted. I was the one who raised the 90 day question, and only because I noted that each member's baseline was take from a 90 day average. I didn't know if that was an issue or not, so I mentioned it "just in case."

Rick

Fourthbean 09-09-2007 04:40 AM

We have a spot left on our team if anyone wants to get in on the challenge.

diamondlarry 09-09-2007 08:11 AM

I just became aware that there is an opening on our team as well. I haven't checked my PM's for awhile.:o

GasSavers_StanleyD 09-12-2007 09:29 AM

Hey, any room for me ?

Id like to join a team. Im not sure how much better my mpg's can get but Im sure there's some room for improvement. I log a lot of miles so Im not sure how that will affect overall numbers. (Are the points 'weighted' for the number of miles someone drives. If so then my mpg may be of significant weight on any team I join- just a disclaimer if your team has sweet numbers and dont want them going down.) My numbers arent so bad but I would like to get them up. I am also ready to try acetone testing, so who knows how much better it can get. Currently have very few mods (only driving style, part-time Scanguage, small psi increase and K&N filter)
