Accentident: congrats on the healthy numbers!
Some cars are easier than others to beat EPA than others. (Not saying yours is one of them - maybe you're wringing it for all it's worth!) My 89 Accord would regularly exceed its government highway numbers by 20%+ doing just what you are doing, and nothing more. I highly recommend getting the SG. Worth the money - it'll help you develop efficiency habits you can use in every car you own from now on. PS - you should set up a garage entry for your Hyundai so we can watch your progress: https://www.gassavers.org/garage/add |
I just got my best tank ever on the Metro by EOCing and pumping up the tires.
42.15 mpg in an automatic. Pretty decent. I'm hoping to get to 50. |
72.67mpg (551.5miles, 7.59gal) Mostly DWL at 55 to 65mph on I26 in North Carolina and one trip down to Greenwood, SC on US25 at similar speeds on the rural portions of the drive.

I had a firly good day today. Temps started out at ~60F and got up to ~80F. Winds were fairly light but, for most of the time, they somewhat from the side.
1) 62.8-5.8 miles(home to wife's work) 2) 84.1-9.6(wife's work to my work) 3) 62.3-5.3(my work to home to pick up my daughter) 4) 74.6-6.3(home to wife's work) 5) 67.4-7.6(wife's work to Meijer for groceries) 6) 77.5-8.9(Meijer to home) 7) 93.3-4.9(home to daughter's and my voice lessons) 8) 82.2-5.1(voice lessons to home) Average for the day: 74.5. Tank is at 76.1 after 605.6 miles with 4 pips showing. It looks like I may have a 700 mile tank before I fill up Friday for my trip to Oak Creek, WI for the Milwaukee Hybrid Group meet on Saturday. The next few tanks are going to be hard on the lmpg with Saturday's trip and I'll be taking another trip from home to Sandusky, Ohio to go to Cedar Point over the 4th. Maybe if I'm lucky, I'll get some stop and crawl on the way from the horel to Cedar Point to help bring up my average. I guess the highway trips so early in the lmpg game will cause me to work extra hard to bring up the mileage before winter sets in again. |
Dimaondlarry: You are doing well with that Prius.
I finally caught that other Saturn on the Top 10 but it doesn't mean as much since you ain't drivin it :D . I decided to pull the head on mine and put in Somender Singh grooves. The gasket is not here yet. I am only going to make the one change. As currently configured I usually make 56 to work and 76 home or some other combination that averages 60-68 mpg. |
I set a new record today and tied another one. The tie was for my second segment from my wife's work to my work at 84.5. The new record was 83.3 for the day. Temps started at ~65F and got to a reported high of 82. Most of my commute was with sidewinds of 10-15 mph.:(
1) 65.6-5.8 miles(home to wife's work) 2) 84.5-9.6(wife's work to my work) 3) 78.9-11.5(my work to wife's work-my road was closed so I had to detour for this segment which is usually 9.6) 4) 90.4-10.7(wife's work to my mom's) 5) 54.3-2.1(mom's to bank) 6) 129-6.9(bank to home) Average for today: 83.3(New PR:woot:) Tank is at 76.6 after 652.3 miles and I went down to 3 pips somewhere during segment 2. Good luck with your cylinder head mods. If you shave the head you will have to degree the cam. Something to do with the center line or something like that. |
I noticed that I have been driving fast lately. My MPG seems to be pretty steady at 25 with my current driving style. I installed a water temp gauge today, so I will be establishing my baseline this week so that I can try running without the fan.
I think I need to find an aftermarket air filter for my car, the air horn has about a 1" diameter hole for the air to come through. Also want to try the Warm Air Intake, curious what effect it will have on a carbed engine. |
Fleet update!
Fireflea: drove the to the post office with a bulky/fragile package today and checked the SG stats: Tank info since last fill, May 31: 97 km / 60 miles, 97.x mpg (US), 17 mph avg. All in-town driving, obviously. Beater bike: In contrast, the pirate bike's seen over 200 km since June 2, when I plucked its rusty *** from the curb. :D ForkenSwift: I've illegally driven about 20 km in the same period, though none of that was actually "useful" trips - mostly just ghosting around the neighbourhood because I can. When it's licenced and I can fearlessly drive it in busier areas (ie. not worry about getting nabbed for expired plates etc.), it'll displace some of the Blackfly's "useful" trips. |
