GasSavers_James 04-15-2007 04:53 PM

Should I start with the camry, which I currently drive, or the VX, which I will hopefully get on wednesday?

MetroMPG 04-16-2007 01:42 PM

I would think it'd be easier to start with the VX, if you're getting it this week. We'll see what the commish says about that.

GasSavers_James 04-16-2007 06:02 PM

MetroMPG: that sounds good, although I think that the VX (and the metro) have a harder time surpassing the EPA estimates than less fe cars like my camry. I'll have to check on the status of that lean burn in a hurry!

MetroMPG 04-16-2007 06:05 PM

I agree about the Metro & VX, James.

But the contest is to see how much you improve over your own baseline. In effect we can ignore % over EPA for the purposes of the contest. The goal is to see if we can continue improving month over month (or week over week).

GasSavers_James 04-17-2007 07:59 AM

Ok I get it. I read through some of the rules and then got more confused. Thanks for stating it simply. The first fillup for me will be before I have really learned how to hypermile it, and before i have gone thru all the maintainence items, and that will be a good baseline.

red91sit 04-18-2007 12:25 PM

Oh yesh! Summer is here, and I'm constantly seeing numbers right aruond the 30 mark on the highway! This could be a new personal best tank?!

GasSavers_James 04-19-2007 04:19 PM

Questions about my baseline 1st fillup

I got the VX home, and it is runnning rough in lean burn. It has the wrong spark plugs in it: bosch. I think it is only getting about 39 MPG right now, and 100 miles on the current tank were from the previous owner. so i guess once i get the right spark plugs in her i will fill up and from then on that will be the baseline fillup?

trebuchet03 04-19-2007 04:28 PM

If anyone is looking for a team member -- or wants to start another team.... :D

Team Opec Busters is in need of a replacement driver.

Also OdieTurbo and kwtorbe SG members have expressed interest in being on a team.

P.S Please reply to my post for aero help. CO ZX2

That makes the most sense to me.

Bill in Houston 04-22-2007 02:38 PM

I am a free agent as well. I fill about every two weeks.

trebuchet03 04-22-2007 07:07 PM

Odie, Bill - want to start a team? I think it might be easier for form a new team than find three opening :p

Bill in Houston 04-23-2007 06:25 AM

If you will be team captain and remind me of what I am supposed to do, I would be honored to be on the team. I have not kept up with the details of participation, I mean COMPETITION, but I can definitely do whatever I need to do if someone will remind me every now and then. :-)

rh77 04-23-2007 06:46 AM

If any of you need assistance with team formation, just let me know.

TC duties are mainly to collect weekly data and "pump-up" the team members.

It looks like all you need is 2 more, and you have a team!

Rules are at the top of the forum. The "Top 10" lists the basics, and it goes into further detail after that.

Best FE,

The Commish

Be happy to! I fill up about every 3 days. Just planning a project to lower the car, add tire air diverters, and possibly side-skirts and an air dam.

The_Last_SL1 is a 4-door automatic too!

Bill in Houston 04-23-2007 08:22 AM

Need two more!!! Anyone?

trebuchet03 04-23-2007 07:52 PM

Well, while we're working on finding two members :) Ideas for names?

The "Leftovers" :p Basically since we're the guys who were left over. Simple and to the point!

Bill in Houston 04-24-2007 06:07 AM

I like it. If we compete in the cycle after this one, we can be The Warmed Over Leftovers. :-)

rvanengen 04-24-2007 06:51 AM

Count me in...

GasSavers_DaX 04-24-2007 07:31 AM

What's required of me? I'll consider doing it...I'm not that great of gas-miser. I have two cars that can be used also, I don't care which. The Beater gets a fill-up about once every 10 days, the Beat is less, but if we use it maybe I'll be encouraged to drive it more. :)

LxMike 04-24-2007 12:26 PM

<sitting on the sidelines wishing some team needs one more member>

anyone?? ;)

Bill in Houston 04-24-2007 01:14 PM

Treb or Odie, looks like there are 5. Will one of you be our captian?

trebuchet03 04-24-2007 08:07 PM

I'll do it :)

I'm cool with team leftovers....

But, to throw in another name

Team Bananerna

(sorry, I've been slowly teaching myself Swedish and that's really fun to say)

-----

In order

Tre - has a sedan
Odie - has an automatic | Above Mason Dixon
Bill
rvanengen
Dax -- looks like all that is required is an updated gaslog (rules)

LxMike, if DaX decides s/he doesn't want to participate, we're happy to welcome you on our team :) I'm just going in post order.

Is anyone in the list above also north of the Mason-Dixon line? Other than that technicality and once we all confirm, we're ready to jump in :)

OdieTurbo 04-25-2007 12:54 AM

Confirmed!

GasSavers_DaX 04-25-2007 04:16 AM

I'll go ahead and confirm. We'll use the Beater (Sedan, 5-spd) just because I drive it way more often.

Bill in Houston 04-25-2007 05:43 AM

Confirmed!

I drive a Honda Element, 2wd, 5-speed. Its gaslog is up to date. My current estimated mileage on this tank is 26.5 mph (No ScanGauge).

I am not north of any lines, except I-10... :-)

What else do you need from me? Thanks for being Captain! I think you get to choose the name since you stepped up. Just tell me what Bananerna means...

trebuchet03 04-25-2007 08:29 AM

It's plural for banana :p But, I'm thinking leftovers - and then we'll graduate to something else later :)

We have one snag though.... the rules require that at least two members be North of the Mason Dixon line... Right now, we only have 1 person....

GasSavers_DaX 04-25-2007 09:02 AM

I can pull out of the group if someone north of the Mason Dixon comes up - I'll wait with LX Mike to join a group if need be. :)

Bill in Houston 04-25-2007 10:48 AM

Leftover Bananas is fine with me. Whatever you say. :-)

"Leftover Bananas"... I like the sound of that one.

Anyone know of anyone else in this group north of the Mason Dixon???

Well, North Carolina isn't THAT far south of the line. :-)

Could we maybe compete, but exclude ourselves from the valuable prizes should we accidentally win?

usedgeo 04-25-2007 07:25 PM

Well I am in southern Idaho and I ought to join one of these teams. I have a 4-door 5-speed, 2001 Saturn. Life seems pretty busy but this would motivate me to do a few more things to the car.

Ernie

Whoa... there's prizes? I totally wasn't aware of that... But in any case, I'm cool with that - if the rest of the team and the boss peoples agree :p

On a somewhat related note (to prizes).... A website I frequent is having a project contest - the grand prize being a laser cutter (worth nearly $6K)... I just found out I'm not eligible because I'll be working as an intern for them in a few weeks  It makes me a little sad -- but I get to work in a fab lab this summer!

Want to win that there laser cutter? https://www.instructables.com/id/E1DESIMF0H63N2Z/

rh77 04-25-2007 09:13 PM

Big Prizes!

I think I can dig-up a Laser Pointer out of the basement...:p
