Anyway, you might want to check out your owner's manual and see what it says about towing your Rabbit. |
Is yours automatic or manual?
I'm pretty sure that it's ok with a manual regardless of whatever the manual says. I'll have to look at the owner's manual again, but I think I'll keep doing it regardless of what it says. The golfmkv.com users were concerned not about the longevity of my transmission, but rather because they assumed I was going to hurt someone due to lack of power steering (they forgot that the car has electric power steering), brakes (besides the 3-5 brake uses I have in retained pressure, I'm strong enough to stop well with manual brakes), acceleration (nobody told me exactly how it would help), and children (the places where I EOC are in the middle of a forest with no pedestrian access, far from civilization, with no other traffic). |

According to VW, the automatic transmission does not receive proper lubrication with the engine off. This is based solely on what I read in the owner's manual. I would be glad disregard it if I had evidence to the contrary, but I'd rather be cautious with that car since I'm still paying for it.
Made a trip today without using EOC, but still using EOI and I saw about a 4 mpg drop from 30 to 26 on 45 mph roads with a stoplight every mile for 20 miles. Since we drive that car less than my Tercel, the drop in FE doesn't hurt the pocketbook too much. |
I didn't realize that we were talking about automatics. My VW has a manual transmission.
Most automatics are NOT equipped for EOC. |
