I park the 2005 Kia Optima LX V-6 (crappy FE BTW) at a public parking lot....

We come out of the restaurant to find some moderate damage to the car! It looks like someone backed right into it on the rear, driver's side -- ripped the bumper, pushed it inward, swiped the quarter panel and dented it.

All I have to say is: Seriously, WTF?

This is hit-and-run , is it not? (S)he hit me, I run... to get my shotgun! :D

Check to see if there are any security cameras in the lot. Many places have them and they can be pretty small so you may not notice them on a pole or under a building overhang. An ATM also takes photos every once in a while that may show something.

So far so good

Well, the lot was a poorly lit, gravel lot behing the center square in the deep South. No ATMs, and probably no cams. I remembered parking next to a silver 2000-ish Honda Accord Coupe, but the paint on my car was blue and it looked to have been backed into and not "cut hard" on the reverse out of the parking spot. So we have a paint mismatch, no witnesses, testimony that I didn't do it from a co-worker, and the rental agency agreeing to take care of it...

So far, So good. I got my receipt for the regular rental amount and I haven't heard anything since. I'm thinking that it's resolved for now. It just burns me up about that kind of dishonesty, but (I'm probably going to get reamed for this), I've come across some pretty closed minded people there who are pretty irresponsible. The bigotry hasn't changed much since the Civil War, frankly, and that's very disheartening.

...and that's all I got to say about that. Forrest Gump.

If you report it to the police and they come back to the lot and find a matching car with damage then they probably might do something. BE funny if the car that hit you was from another rental company!

I'll probably be reamed too, but I agree with you. Racism and cultural segregation are worse in the south than any other place that I've been, and I travel alot for my work.
