Re: consious driver.
I will always do the basics but I wont be hardcore about it. I understand that people will up their speed to please other drivers but Im not one of them. If the speed limit is 50mph and Im going to get better mileage obeying the law than thats what Im going to do whether other drivers like it or not. Just by following the bare minimum basics of getting better mileage Ive been able to go from 40 to 48 in my del sol and 35 to 41 in my yaris.

Re: consious driver.
I thought my clutch was on its way out 3 years ago. But it kept working fine so I eventually forgot about it. I do tons of EOCing. But I'm usually not bump starting it at a 'to be' high RPM (usually 1500RPM or less). If it does do damage to my clutch, I think it is negligible compared to normal use of the clutch. I atribute long clutch life to getting in and out as quickly as possible, not how much or little I EOC. As I understand it, your clutch is taking on wear whenever the following conditions are met: the engine is in gear and the clutch pedal is somewhere between fully depressed and not depressed at all.
As far as being a conscious driver... *woops* |
Re: consious driver.
I still enjoy playing the real life video game that hypermiling is. I do my best for every drive and every tank. I'll quit when it's no longer fun or challenging. When I do, I'll still put it on cruise control 5 or 10 mph below the PSL, and handily beat EPA by 40%.

Re: consious driver.
I like to EOC as much as possible just because it's the only time my car is smooth and quiet! :)
