In this article, it says that only the California Emmissions VX had the EGR in it. So, that means that you are releasing more Nox into the air....which would be why you have the funny smell.... I found that bit of information on page 19 and 20 of this article https://72.14.209.104/search?q=cache:...=clnk&cd=11See |
Dan, when you did the belly pan on the Del Camino, were you able to estimate how much it helped? I could search for this, but I'm being lazy.

So, did you go to work today? Any numbers with the pan/block/spoilers?
|
It was cold and rainiy, numbers were a few MPG lower. Not a good day for comparison. I wouldn't expect to see much on my commute. Hoping for something on long highway runs, like I will be doing starting 9/18.

I have completed several mods that are meant to maximize the highway FE, which after getting some results, I will share here. My belly pan is complete with aluminum ala basjoos and the pan includes the muffler. I have wheel spoilers at all 4 but they actually rake forward which is prolly not a good thing. I removed the XM antenna and stuck it on the rear hatch out of the air flow. I removed the FM antenna and installed a blockoff plate. I am also driving with the drivers mirror folded in and am using a blind spot mirror mounted inside the car to give better visibility. I also have the coroplast wheel covers cut and painted with Krylon Fusion silver. I will mount them using clear RTV this Saturday before I leave Sunday morning for the 640 mile trip to the beach.
I will commute to work from the beach (225 miles, 4.5 hr RT)for a few weeks before I close on the house. Then the commute will be down to 135 miles, 2.5 hr RT. I'm hoping for some nice results but I really don't have much to compare with due to the new commute so the gains won't really be quantifiable until I remove the aero mods for NC inspection in Dec or Jan. I will stop rambling now. :p |
Will you get a better break on winter weather and a later arrival of winter blend moving south?:)
|
Yes, I hope to have more moderate winters. :D
