Re: Fuel Additives Poll
Does water that has been absorbed into ethanol turn to steam, or has it actually chemically reacted with the ethanol into something else?

Re: Fuel Additives Poll
I'm 99% sure that water absorbed into alcohol turns to steam when the alcohol is burned.

Re: Fuel Additives Poll
Some time ago I read that Brazil has a problem with mufflers rotting-out quickly because of their ethanol fuel.

Re: Fuel Additives Poll
I used a couple of cups of water through a vacuum line on the 740 turbo volvo wagon. I let it get good and warm, held the throttle open a little, and let the vacuum line suck up about half a cup of water until it would idle again without stalling. The water makes it run like crap for a few seconds, obviously. I repeated the process until all the water was gone, then took it out for a good high throttle run.
Did it help? I suppose it did. Nothing quantifyable but it felt a little peppier driving. Could just be my head though.
As I recall, this does reduce carbon build up in the cylinders/valves. (courtesy of Car Talk) I also replaced my Catalytic converter a couple of days later. This process was intentionally done before replacing it. It needed to be replaced (it was rotted so bad it was falling off) so I wasn't worried about trapping all that extra chunky carbon in front of the cat. If I was to do this to the Honda, I'd remove the cat and wear hearing protection first. You could also then see what was coming out of there!

Re: Fuel Additives Poll
Very interesting information in this thread. Has anyone (but me) notice an increase in actual fuel efficiency using an additive and if so, which one?

Re: Fuel Additives Poll
A friend from vt came down with his ram truck a few weeks ago after using my scan gauge for 278 gallons of gas he was averaging 16.0 mpg and about 18 on highway trips. I added some Torco GP-7 to his tank for his return trip from Wareham to Norwich Vt of about 195 miles. He gassed up when he left and again in Norwich taking 9.0 gallons to fill it so he ended up getting 22mpg.

Re: Fuel Additives Poll
Problem is, you didn't control for variables like temperature and driving speed.. JanGeo, how do we know that the temperatures didn't go up and that he didn't drive slower or he aired up the tires?
