Amsoil 2 Cycle As Fuel Additive

heard recently about using this http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/ato.aspx as a fuel additive.

the recommended amount was said to be 2oz to 5 gal.

I'm highly skeptical. Did whoever suggested it, also suggest any reasons why 2 cycle mix oil would help, and more specifically why expensive synthetic 2 cycle mix oil should be used instead of cheap stuff?

At least it is a cheap experiment.

that's why i might try it.

i got the tail-end of a radio show on the subject. i believe it is suposed to be an upper cylinder lube/cleaner possibly?

i happen to have a partial bottle, so i'll let you guys know how it goes. but a tank lasts me 2 weeks, so please be patient(and i won't need to fill-up until friday).

Have been doing this on and off for almost 25 years. In most cases it's a win win.

I used to do this in my old ford pinto, but with the cheap stuff. It seemed to help boost the low compression it had, which added a bit more power. Unfortunately this was back when gas was 99 cents a gallon, so I never logged anything. It also fouled the spark plugs faster.

I use Torco GP7 and it only takes 2.5 cc per 10 gallons to see benifits - it contains PIB a chemical that improves the combustion of the gasoline also.

prolly cuz the oil sealed the rings better hence less blowby. i dunno if i trust putting oil in a modern car tho.

It is made for 2 cycle motors. That's what it says. Unless you have a 2 cycle motor powering your car you don't need it.

If it really did something or was needed, it would be included in the fueling instructions of your vehicle owners manual. In fact all the vehicle owners manuals I have read under fueling requirements, do not recommend putting any additives in the fuel. If you don't believe me, get your vehicle owners manual out and see if/what additives it recommends.
