Oh, yeah, that was my extension of the idea. I didn't mean to imply you did. Worth looking into, but not even close to practical.
Since the new iPod Nano has an accelerometer in it I contacted Apple to see if they had any way for it to just display the angle. Nope, and they suggested I go instead for the iPod Touch. That's starting to get pricey compared to a dedicated inclinometer, especially since I'm perfectly content with my iPod Shuffle. If the Touch had GPS and a built in microphone I'd be all over it.
