Boo Hoo :-(

So, a little foreshadowing in the subject line can tell you what happened. Tragedy on 2-counts:

1. Went to the dealer to drive it after a work teleconference -- arrival 10:30 CST -- Dealer was closed on Sunday (??? - bad biz practice) and Monday (that I can buy). My salesman was out on a test drive, so I went up to the CX to get a closer look. It was unlocked! I got in, ran through the gears, and got a feel for it (it look like a year old inside - I kid you not). Another sales guy comes up, "So is this your new car?"
Thinking he was playing the sales BS, I threw it back,
"You know it just might!"
Salesman,
"No it's SOLD"...
Like in slow motion I looked to the dash, and there it was, the red/yellow badge of death. SOLD, NO!!!
It was confirmed. At 09:00 CST someone put a deposit over the phone. They have until 5:45 to pick it up, otherwise I get to take a stab at it...BUT

2. They want frickin' $5000 for it! I can negotiate a little, but geez Louise! Forgettaboutit.

I'll have to find a private owner with something similar. I really like the interior ergonomics and the feel of the shifter. Those cars were WAY ahead of their time.

I will sell you my VX for $5000. I will throw in the rust for no extra charge!

Seriously, you need to find these on ebay or the classifieds. The dealers know that they are in demand. Most private sellers don't and just try to get KBB value for it.

As I see it from a practical point of view, for stock Hondas, it goes:

Civic VX
Civic CX
CRX HF with a trailer to haul the kids or the Mother in Law, or both.
Where do I get the CRX HF/Trailer combination?????

Sweet, a VX and FREE Iron Oxide to boot! Sign me UP!

You're right, I'm going to have to go with the private owner who hasn't figured it out -- It's almost like stiffing them, but if they need to sell it...
