184. You hear at least three horns, see at least six high beam flashes, and see at least eight middle fingers on a 10 mile commute.

185. There always seems to be someone less than five feet from your rear bumper.

186. People constantly ask what that thing is on your car, or what is wrong with your car.

187. You read all these posts about bump-starting in reverse, and think 'why
is that so strange, I do it all the time'
188. You have thought about boiler-lagging the engine to reduce heat loss
on short journeys
189. You are considering ways to underdrive the engine ancillaries (alternator etc) to reduce HP usage
190. You have considered getting a 3-5BHP electric motor to assist the engine on short journeys, to increase gas mileage

Anyway, off to inflate my tyres a bit now!

Hi Landspeed, welcome to fuel economy nuttiness! Feel free to post a "hello" in the "introduce yourself" forum and tell us a bit about yourself & your vehicle.

I've definately thought of both of those. Welcome.

I've put a post in the new members section - thanks for the welcome

191 : When you consider fitting a small diesel engine in a corner of the car
somewhere to use for long-haul journeys, on veg oil!

192: You breathe a sigh of relief when you're the last car through the interesection on an amber/red light.

(EDIT: not because you didn't have to stop - well, that too - but because now you can drive however you want until traffic catches up behind you again.)

193: When you keep a kitchen timer in your car to catch the radio traffic updates. Here's the recipe, assuming radio traffic updates every 10 minutes :

1 - Set the kitchen timer for 9 minutes.
2 - When traffic update occurs, hit kitchen timer start button.
3 - Listen to whatever you want after traffic update.
4 - When kitchen timer goes off, switch back to radio traffic update station and hit stop button on kitchen timer.
5 - Repeat steps 2-4.

PS - I have a digital kitchen timer with an LCD screen. The LCD screen was fried by the sunlight/interior car heat, so you have to keep it shaded and out of direct sunlight. It still works fine (it has a consistent Klingon-like language), so I keep using it.

You feel that 100% over EPA is actually a failure in your quest for fuel economy!

Note - I know that different cars can be v. difficult to hypermile, but mine is so inefficient it responds well to mods + driving technique
