Why Different Fuel Mileage for Civic VXs

Hello Everyone,

I'm new here, nice to meetcha..so to speak.

Like many other people lately, I've been researching the best fuel mileage cars and wouldn't you know it, I've decidede I need an early to mid-1990s Civic . I noticed that Mpgomatic.com lists two different fuel mileages for what appears to be the same vehicle. For example, in 1990 there are two mileage quotes for a CRX HF, both with 1.5L M5 manual trans; one is 49/52, the other 43/49. What's up with that? Thanks.

Larry

One of those has a shift indicator light (SIL) which lights up to tell you when to shift.

Either federal vs CA or it's the revised EPA estimates. They changed how they calculate their estimates. The new method is more pessimistic / realistic to what you can expect to get.

Those would be the old EPA estimates.
