I think that for a 1998, you might be better off going with a honda civic HX engien and drive train, as it would be a better match for your cars wiring, electronics, and engine mounts, as it would be possible to find a civic HX of the same/simaler year, your peek mileage might not be as great, but if you matched an HX engine to a VX tranny... you would also get to keep the use of a scan guage.

www.hmotorsonline.com seems to have a good reputation on www.honda-tech.com, not sure if they sell the vx engine you're looking for.
