Which Truck Has better Fuel Economy

Hi there, i am looking at either a 2011 dodge ram 1500 or a 2008 ford f-350 super duty diesel, i just wanted some input on which truck would cost the least on gas/diesel there are so many variations on sites out there i just wanted to see. Thanks Ahead of Time

Which engine in the Dodge? The 390-hp 5.7L V8 does not do well on gas. It gets worse mileage than comparable engines from Ford and Chevy. Rear end ratio also makes a big difference. Also, note that diesel is more expensive than gas.

The Dodge is the 5.7L yes, and the Ford is the 6.4L, i know that diesel is more expensive but dosent it go longer.

in a straight comparison, a diesel engine of the same size will usually out-perform a gas engine of the same size when it comes to fuel economy. What you have to remember, though, is that the Ford has a larger engine and the truck probably weighs nearly a ton more. Not the the Dodge is a lightweight, but a 1/2 ton truck versus a one-ton truck... that Ford diesel has a lot of weight to lug around.

I'd say to get the truck that best suits your driving needs. If you're going to be hooked up to a trailer most of the time, definitely go with the Ford. If you're going to be tooling around town with a small load in the bed, get the Dodge.

That Dodge will average you around 17 mpg without modifications and not acting like a kid behind the wheel. The Ford will average you about 22mpg without mods as long as you aren't towing a battleship. Upgrade the turbo, exhaust and reflash the PCM and you should be able to see 30 or more all day on the highway with the ford. Best case out of the dodge might be 20.

If you don't foresee yourself modifying them, get the one that is easiest to drive around in.

It's not going to matter much, diesels aren't cheaper because they get better fuel economy, it doesn't work out that way.

Diesels require maintenance that is far costlier than a gasoline engine so it all adds out in the end.

Maintenance intervals are much longer on the diesel engines.

I had a powerstoke 6.0 for a long time. Hated it, the mileage sucked. My 2011 gas F150 3.7 V6 gets better mileage.

I just purchased a new 2013 F-150 ecoboost 3.5 twin turbo truck, and have been driving it like an old lady. So far I am not able to get above 14.6 mpg. Can someone give me insight about this? It was a demo and has 6000 miles on it. Will I eventually get better gas mileage, or is there something I can do to improve the mpg? HELP.
