what oil do you use in your vx only!

well after searching and searching it seems like every one has a different opinion

i have a 92 vx that i acquired at 150,000 and have been running 5w30 mobile1

i was wondering what is the lowest viscosity that i can run safely
please chime in if you own a vx or know about vx.
i live in the mountains/high desert are of california
to be exact Oak hills/ hesperia area
it gets pretty hot in th summer and below freezing in the winter

looking for better FE and how many more mpg do you think i will get with lower viscosity
thanks guys!

In my VX, I switched to Mobil1 0w30. I've only had the car for 3 tanks, so unfortunately I didn't have a baseline for the oil that was in it. I've been watching the level very closely, and haven't noticed any leaks.

5W30 - whatever is on sale. Dang oil's friggin expensive now and I believe in oil changes every 3 months or 4000 miles. Used to use Mobil 1 on my first VX for ten years for 155K miles. So far no problems with mineral based oil this time - my 2nd VX probably has at least 200K now - rolled back odo very likely before I bought it in 2005.

Stick to the oil recommended by the manufacturer.

As for brands, Mobil 1 is one of the best but is also quite expensive. Valvoline conventional oil is good stuff and is more cost effective.

I run Mobil 1 5w20 full synthetic on my low mileage JDM engine (in my VX). If you run Mobil1, run FULL synthetic and the regular stuff, not the "high mileage" stuff.

"In my VX, I switched to Mobil1 0w30"

I plan to do the same thing ('95 VX with about 106k).

I'm running castrol synthetic 5w30.

Replaced the oil filter at 4k miles, and plan to change the oil at 8k miles. I've noticed the car starts up much easier now with this oil compared to the conventional I was using.

After 4k miles, the motor took only a 1/2 qt, mainly due to a valve cover and spark plug tube leak. The motor has 135k miles on it and the history is unknown. Installed it with 120k on it.

I'm running Dino Oil now. Just finishing my 2nd clean cycle with Auto-Rx. Once the 2nd rinse cycle is done, I'll be back to Mobil 1 0W20 & Mobil 1 filter.

You can learn about motor oil here:

You can read about Auto-Rx at Bob is the Oil guy or the Auto-Rx forum.

I have 250,000 miles on my '92 civic vx, I used 0W 30 amsoil for the first few years I owned it (started at 204,000 miles), then I switched to royal purple 5w 30 and my idle bounce problem disappeared, it also takes about 10 seconds before the oil pressure light comes on after I turn the engine off, longer in the winter.
