Whenever I see traffic slowing or stopping on the freeway I try to time it so I can EOC right up to the tail end of the blockage. Sure, a few cars will pass me along the way. I think that's worth about 2 or 3 seconds to my 45 minute commute. Coasting down from 60 to 30mph is a nice, looong coast. I couldn't do it without looking very far ahead.
I use this for uphill on ramps and it works great. I eoc up as far as i can then bump start, select the correct gear and just creep up to the red light and time the green light so i never stop. I picked this up from watching big rigs doing the same thing so as not to stop. Usually the people behind me just do what i was doing and they don't stop either.
