Tested my technique.
My Mighty Mazda ac quit when it was 103 degrees on Sunday. Had to make the same trip for work today. I used our extra car, 1994 Intrepid es automatic that had been used by my daughter for a while and then just sitting. The AC works great but it has 167000 miles on it. Oil was good, coolant good, put 40 lbs air pressure in tires. It had a bunch of stuff that my daughter had left in it, the tranny needs service, sounded like one plug was missing a little. It does have a scan gauge type reading that came with it new. It gives real time mpg up to 100 mpg. I cleared the gauge that read 16 mpg on 621 miles of use. I put 3.9 gallons of fuel in it and off i go for the 90 miles round trip. I use mainly drafting and gliding in neutral. Most of the trip is on the freeway. 96 degrees and 10% humidity. When i coasted to a stop in front of my house the gauge read 32.00 mpg. Even when it was new the best i could get was 27 mpg. I am just amazed how technique is so important. Curb weight is 3370 + junk in the car + MFA of 205 lbs. The entire trip was with the ac on.
