That this appears to be a transmission related issue, and it was a coincidence.

EDIT: I've changed my mind. I've learned to not change my oil!

Jay,

What transmission is in your truck? Here's the GM 4L60E technician guide, I just stumbled across it at camaro5.com:

I don't know. Its a 98 K1500 4wd with the Z71 and HD towing package. I'm not sure if its a 4L60E or a 4L80E. Is there a way to tell from the VIN number, or the equipment codes listed on the inside of the glovebox?

Yes, there is. The RPO codes in your glovebox can be found online. There's loads of places to find them.

Code M30 is the 4L60E. Code MT1 is the 4L80E.

Failing those, of course, there's http://www.google.com/search?q=rpo+decoder

Thanks. I looked on the internet the other day, but I couldn't find the codes. I'll look tomorrow morning.

I'm showing M30 on the glovebox tag, so its a 4L60E.

I liked that second link. (http://lonestarthunder.com/m_rpo.php) I entered all the codes, and it gave me a breakdown of all equipment...

Jay,

ask this guy about your vibrating pedal/possible tranny issues...

www.magicmechanic.com

he is nationally recognized as THE consumer's advocate, plus he rebuilds transmissions.

We have a similar guy doing a local call in show - Pat Goss. He is a regular on the Motorweek TV show. Then again it would always be cool to call CarTalk, but alas, its not a 1986 Dodge Colt Vista Wagon...

I just setup an xGauge to report transmission temp. Does anyone out there know what is "normal" and beyond what temp would one be "worried"?
