On the Popular mechanics article..
i) EPA tests are useless, they use a "reference fuel" which bears scant resemblance to what comes out of any pump, they have gas-brakes-gas-brakes testing which may represent the average idiot, but is no indicator of economy under sensible driving, either that or your cars mileage is 24 mpg period and you're (we all are) deluded, lying, or faking your gas log.
ii) The guy writing the article is an idiot, look back at his links where he said acetone doesn't work, and on the same page he was telling someone that his non-interference engine was getting contact because the cam was out of time. Sounds like ad hominem, but if someone prone to basic mistakes walks in and tells me the sky is blue, I'm going to go out and check.
iii) Don't know if the system installed was a good one, or even if it was set up right for the tests, notice the "idiot" confessed to "tinkering" with it... hmmm ... in his other HHO article he seems to imply that he drives along maintaining the same injector pulsewidth... rather that trying to maintain constant speed for lowest pulsewidth.... if he's doing that, he's not even letting the ECU turn the mixture back to lean cruise.
However, I agree that 3 times the mpg is very unrealistic.

I remember The RoadWarrior..To understand who he was, you have to go back to another time..the world was powered by the black fuel & the desert sprouted great cities..Gone now, swept away..two mighty warrior tribes went to war & touched off a blaze which engulfed them all. Without fuel, they were nothing..thundering machines sputtered & stopped..Only those mobile enough to scavenge, brutal enough to pillage would survive. The gangs took over the highways, ready to wage war for a tank of juice
