The car is worth what you are willing to pay. If you're driving a guzzler it will pay for itself pretty quick

Btw, for all you Honda people, wouldn't the cheapest option for VX economy be to drop the VX motor/trans/ECU/etc into another Honda Hatch?

Depends on how cheap you get the donor car and what you can sell off it,
