Running wast veggie oil 40+ miles per gal.

Have been running My vw rabbit diesel on filtered waste veggie oil for a few years now runs great and cost is about .05 a gal. Anyway have fun do not buy new car ... recycle

This is illegal in the UK i think. Probably a form of tax evasion seeming as most of our fuel cost is tax!

40 MPG though, that's not great for a diesel is it? Just seen an advert for a VW Polo Diesel which apparently does 90 MPG!

Actually it's perfectly legal in the UK. No tax up to 2500 litres. After that point you need to pay duty at 47.1p/litre.

You need to be careful about the engine - for example, the VW PD and CR engines are damaged by WVO & SVO, but the older ones were OK.

Remember that 40mpg in the US = 50mpg in the UK (roughly).

For $ .05 a gallon I think 40 MPG sounds pretty good. I'm currently paying $338.9 per gallon of unleaded and only getting in the low to mid 40's.

srellim234, you may have the most expensive gas in the US, but it is much much more expensive here in vancouver canada. we pay about 80 cents more per gallon than you do.

though thats still far less the the english have to pay... poor bastards.

Srellim, look through the history on my Caravan. Price for gas in US Gallons, even in Canada are listed. (I drive in Ontario a lot)

Last time I bought gas in Ontario it was nearly 5.15 a gallon.

Our average US prices here at the moment are hovering between 3.799 and 3.899. A few months back we hit as high as 4.399. So it hurts all over. But I agree, we have it easier in some respects than our other worldly counterparts.
