Question for VX / D15Z1 Drivers / Swappers
Do you guys use the shift light? Just wondering...especially for the swappers.

I'm not a swapper but if you are interested, I do not use the shift light, mainly because it is blocked by my DVM which shows the O2 sensor output. I shift earlier than the light anyway.

I think I'm going to install the shift light eventually... Unsure if I'll actually use it.

Is it even possible to shift earlier?
I remember I used to get so annoyed by the light when I had my VX (WAY before I was FE conscious) because it would come on at such a low RPM.
Does anyone on here (Bunger?) know how the ECU calculates the shift point? I don't remember it being the exact same RPM value each time.

I never used the shift light on my VX. I would just ignore it.
I don't remember what RPM it would come on at, but I remember it being really low.

I have a feeling the shift light is going to help get me a few more MPG. If the ECU thinks it's time to shift, I'm gonna shift.
Then again, I'm using a different transmission than the ECU thinks I'm using.

i always used it as some kind of mental reference...
not necessarily "when to shift"...
more like..."how japanese honda inventors think"
lol

I had a Volvo with a shift light, and that was at a low RPM as well...2200 or so IIRC. Seemed insanely low at the time, now I'm thinking that the engineers definitely knew what they were doing.

I tend to use my shift light about half the time, mostly as a reminder of "should I shift?" it'll come on even if I'm going up a hill with a fully loaded car, but it's amazing the tourqe that the engine has for cralling along, 45mph in 5th gear with the engine around what, 1,200rpm? it works on flat roads, not on hills.

Just for consideration I think we ought to note that the EPA classifies cars with shift lights in a seperate category as it considerably affects fuel economy.
It's like advertising, you can say you ignore it all you want but if you ever here someone say "leggo my" you know the sentence will end with "eggo."
