People that run their diesel trucks and such with biodiesel or straight-vegetable-oil can get away with taking wasted oil off the hands of restaurant owners because there aren't that many people that run their vehicles this way.

You need an older diesel. You will destroy the emissions equipment on a modern diesel.

It would be too expensive on any modern diesel.
If you want to use vegetable you need to buy an old school diesel from at least 25 years ago.
Can I ask why you want to use vegetable oil?

Costs vary widely, but converting a car to run on vegetable oil typically ranges from $1,000 to $3,000, depending on the vehicle and kit used. Check with a professional for specific estimates!

Converting a car's engine to run on vegetable oil instead of traditional diesel can be a complex and expensive process. On average, the cost of the conversion can range from $1,500 to $5,000 depending on the type of vehicle, the parts required, and whether you're doing the work yourself or hiring a professional. The process typically involves installing a second fuel system to handle the vegetable oil, along with heating components to ensure smooth operation. While it can save you money on fuel in the long run, it's important to weigh the initial investment and potential maintenance costs.

Converting a car's engine to run on vegetable oil instead of traditional diesel is indeed a fascinating option for those looking to reduce their fuel costs and environmental impact. However, as you mentioned, the upfront cost and complexity of the conversion, along with ongoing maintenance, are key factors to consider. For anyone thinking about this, it's essential to thoroughly research the vehicle's compatibility and find reliable components to ensure the conversion is successful.
