Good because I won't have to figure out how to put some **** on the engine back together, bad because I can't get as much done in advance, good because I know the quality of my engine, bad because it'll get a tiddle confusing.
Anyway, I wonder if I should find an HF cam,

I wish I would have been a member of this site about a year earlier... I tossed my perfectly good HF motor in the dump... oops.

Too bad this site didn't exist a year ago,
Anyway, I'm sure I can get the cam out of a blown up hf, actually, I should know someone with a blown hf...

There is a HF in my junkyard if you want me to grab the cam. It'll be my first time removing a cam, but i'm sure it can't be TOO hard.

It depends on how much the junkyard wants for the cam, I'd have to say.
I think the difference won't be huge, but the knowledge (and forcing myself to learn more about valve timing by having cams on my desk) would be worth it.
Also, understanding that stuff would put me on the road to a custom grind,

On that topic, one TeamSwift member has reported in after doing a head swap with the custom ground cam and advanced cam timing sprocket on a non-XFi G10 motor (1.0L 3-cyl.).
He reported:
Quote:
Torque is up 22%, Horsepower is up 15%. Gas mileage has gone up from 38.13 MPG to 45.02 MPG. That’s a 15% increase!
|
And he backed up his claims with credible data from a G tech pro tester and 8 tanks of fuel (filled weekly; 4 before, 4 after the mod; car used solely for commuting the same route)

You seem to know what I'm thinking even though I'm trying to keep it a secret I stole the idea from how you mentioned that.
I should contract crower (very prominent cam company) and talk to them about doing this with one of my type of cams.
They do custom vtec grinds if you send them a cam for 100, so it'll prolly be cheaper with an 8 valve, nonvtec cam.
