I also get better mileage if I refill after using 4-5 gallons instead of the typical 15 gallons or so. But this is usually after the car sits and the temp equalizes with outside temps.
I'm thinking it is due to the more volitile parts of the gas (butane?) going to the charcoal canister and thus into the intake.
