Well thanks to Frank, I just had a nice RT. I drove to Pep Boys to remove the old tires from the VX rims. I ended up with 81.0 MPG over 17 miles.

My latest tank is not so lovable. 41.something, and I upshifted earlier than usual. Maybe all the recent testing that confirms better mpg at lower rpms is not always right. Maybe, and maybe I could confirm it if I had instrumentation, the sweet spot of efficiency is at a higher rpm sometimes. dunno.

Mehbe you just stink,

Kidding kidding. When are we gonna convert your car to mpfi so you can use the MID? Mine's just gonna be sitting lonely when I'm in college, if you wants to borrow it and take gentle care of it.

I think maybe I do stink. I would love to swap to mpfi, but I want to swap the head or engine if I am going to have to change the wiring anyway. I appreciate your offer of lending the SuperMid... I guess if your head swap looks feasible, then maybe I'll do mine sometime, and set it up for instrumentation. If I get it set up to take a Mid, then I could prolly justify buying one...hopefully used. You just need the head, and a gasket to do it? I would have to get an mpfi im, but the dizzy can just get its plugs changed right?

You'd need a new dizzy, but that's cake. There's a b8 for sale in reading, pa, 50 bucks, I swear. You know you wanna.

If I just used the head from the b8 with my existing block, would that give the same mpg as a complete b8 engine swap? I really can't be lifting engines these days.

It would. The blocks aren't identical but they're functionally so. I'll talk to the guy on AIM and see what he wants for the head.

You only want the cx one. if you can get the vx/hf one it'll work but you'll have a useless egr valve hanging around. should be able to get a complete setup off ebay for cheap and i have a bunch of spare sensors if need be. Matt can supply ecu plugs and somewhere you'll have to dig up a p05. I have the distributor off my b7 so that works. Piece of cake, eh?
