Filled up the Civic yesterday. 562 miles, 12.4 gal. Tank Came in at 45.3 mpg. 90% hwy/10% city, some A/C use. Car was drivin in a normal manor. 2k to 4k rpm shifts, some coasting, 60 to 70 mph hwy speeds.
Not great numbers. But good IMO for the style of driving. EPA is 38 hwy.

Nice numbers psy! You are hypermiling without even trying. Glad to see you posting here.

then do everything you can!
with the tahoe though, rule number one with highway driving: go the speedlimit(65mph that is). with something so aerodynamically inadequate, going so much as 5mph over the speedlimit will be just as bad as drilling a 1/4in hole in the bottom of your gas tank.

I agree, those are admirable numbers for not even going crazy like some of us are.

I haven't been able to log onto this board from my home computer since it went to the new layout, so I am having to do this from work (so far, the board is "read only" from my home computer). On the Tuesday before last (May 16), I went for a drive on the local South Carolina backroads, doing mostly 45MPH, but up to 60MPH coasting on the downhills. Did FAS on the downhills. I gassed up before I started and after 263 miles I gassed up again at the same pump and was only able to add 3.0 gallons (US) for a calculated 87.7MPG. The air temperature started out in the low 50's F and rose to the low 70'F over the course of the drive. Humidity was low for the region(a cold front had passed through the previous day). Now that summer temps (90'sF) and high humidity have finally arrived, I should easily be able to beat this MPG the next time I do on this route (plus I have installed some more aero mods to the car since I made this trip).

Matt - how does basjoos fix the login problem? We don't want to be missing out on posts like that.
Awesome FE numbers as usual, basjoos. Can't wait to see what further aero tinkering has taken place.

Just a quick update...Just installed a deep cycle battery. Had to purchase a rather expensive Optima 'yellow top' because it was the only deep cycle I could find that would fit in my battery tray. Installed a battery charger in the vehicle and disconnected the alternator. The alternator tensions the belt for my water pump, so I left it in there as an idler (very little drag without a field). Expect this to push me into the 60's finally....we'll see!

What you don't have hills? That seems to be all i have out here. It is nice to get a +1 mile FAS. But hills are bad in stop and go driving. Stop and go uphill makes me furious.
Well, krousdb seems like he has mastered the hills of pittsburgh
