How long is your commute?
It's about 23 miles each way, with only a couple places where elevation changes, so fairly flat. I rarely do a trip shorter than 8 miles and if I do, it's about 2-3 miles. I do EOC to the few stops and intersections I encounter, sometimes I take a more rural route for part of my commute. I can go 45 mph or sometimes 40 depending on traffic that way. I can get about 1/2 mile of down hill EOC in one spot on that route going home.

Sounds like a pretty ideal situation. Good stuff!

Drove my parents 2000 Avalon about 20 miles to my house today because I was working on my sidekick and needed to get back to grab a DVD.
Anyhow, there is a trip mode on the dash so I decided to use it and see where I got the best MPG.

At 60 I was getting 20 mpg.
At 35 I was getting 25mpg.
At 45 I averaged 30mpg.
at 55 (which is the speed I do most of my driving) I got 28mpg.

I know that my Sidekick is a completely different vehicle but it tells me what speed to shot for to achieve maxium savings.

A warm-ish day, couple of degrees above freezing. Pulled off 70.0 on the leg where I was seeing low-mid 60's during the cold stuff.

Not quite as good as the 72.x I reported for this leg in post 1441, but there was no big tailwind to push me along this time.

The round trip usually averaged out to low 60's. I'm tempted to drive back just now to see what the return trip is, but naaah.

Brelandt, I'm guessing that Avalon shifts into OD somewhere around 45 mph.

Ok, I'm done driving for the day. What a good day it was too. Temps for the day were fairly steady at ~40F.
Segment 1) 5.8 miles-47.4 with no EOC on this segment only. Tomorrow I will add some EOC to this segment if temps are similar.
2) 9.6 miles- 58.6 Avg. so far-53.4
3) 9.6 miles- 57.1
4) 6.3 miles- 59.0 Avg. so far- 54.9
5) 5.5 miles- 52.4 " " - 54.6
6) 5.5 " - 67.6 " " - 55.9
7) 4.9 " - 73.4 " " - 57.3
8) 4.9 " - 64.3
Total for the day: 52.1 miles@ 57.6 MPG with avg. speed of 30 mph.

It was hard for me to tell. By looking at the readings I would assume so too.

The trip gauage is located in the upper center information screen and is almost too far away to keep an eye on. Pair that with the fact that the car runs so smooth and quite it's hard to feel the shift points and I didn't think to look left at the tach and quickly look right to the trip gauage. Would be a lot of work on the narrow road I was driving on.

I just wished I had one on my Sidekick!!!!!

BTW, I'm in a sort of "custody battle" with my ex-friend over getting my Integra back. For all I know she sold it behind my back?

So I will be shopping around for an old Metro or Storm if the Teggy doesn't make it back home to me.

I love seeing those high MPG ya'll are all getting!!!!!!

I wish I was disappointed with 60 something to a gallon!

Filler up!!

Two questions:

1) Does the Super MID work on any OBDI car?
2) What distance traveled is considered acceptable for a fuel tank fill up? Due to driving changes the first 1/4 of this tank is taking forever , I want to top off and see what the numbers are, but am wondering if there is an there is an "accepted" minimum distance.

Thanks

At least 3/4 empty.

My 1/2 tank reading are higher than near empty everytime.

My tank only holds 11 gallons and I normally fill up near the "E". at that point it takes 7 or so gallons to fill. gauage must be a little off.

If you have a BIGGER tank than you may get away with just 1/2 tank. Mines so small I have to use most of it in order to get a better reading of what my actual mpg are.

2) 60.5 " - 9.6 miles(my work)
3) 63.0 " - 9.6 miles(back to wife's work)
4) 61.2 " - 10.8(to my mom's)
5) 61.6 " - 12.1( mom's to grocery store)
6) 56.1 " - 12.1(back to mom's)
7) 71.0 " - 5.1(home)
8) 63.1 " - 5.2(took daughter to church)
9) 76.1 " - 5.3(back home)
Average for the day: 60.8 mpg. Temp for the day was from ~25F-43F.
