i heard a rumor that big brother is considering raising the gas tax, significantly such that the price would approach the $4/gal range. i don't know how this could be pulled of, but i've heard and seen crazier things.
i hope this remains only a rumor!

At least RI is decent about it and credits you for the tax paid to CT so you don't pay twice for the same income.
Now I work in MA for a MA company and live in RI. I have to file in both states.

Holy cow, what a mess to do every year.

When the government tries this then it will be the time to clean them out and start again, a little revolution every now and then should do the Constitution good.

According to tigerhawk's website:
Oregon levies the first gasoline tax in the United States (there's a shocker);

i work with a "different" thinker. he's a militant-type that believes a violent revolt is long overdue in the US govt.

Are you talking about the Florida law or Oregon here? And what do I have to do with this hair-brained idea to tax mileage?
I've already voiced my disgust to Oregon's governor FWIW.

Doesn't matter if you do. In massachusetts a few years ago we voted to set the income tax rate to 5%. The legislature though this was a bad idea so they just ignored the vote and set it at 5.95%. Mandate from the people meant zilch.

nothing, except that taxes are a sore spot for me, especially raising them or creating new ones. and the fair tax is supported in large part by those you like to take shots at(republicants). and it is blocked by your party, the democracks. so, i took a cheap shot at them.
or...
you could disregard the above and say that i was wondering why you've been relatively quiet the past several days(weeks?). you know, pull you out of the woods(or snow)?

Fair 'nuff. I'll throw you a bit of bone here on that issue too and suggest that even the proposed fair tax would be better than the current structure. Applied universally, we could get rid of many other extraneous taxes such as the one Governor Kulongoski has proposed.
