Need Help please, DIY scangauage

Hey everybody, i just got back from a weekend trip to Chicago. There and back i got awesome mileage, low 30's (in the gas-log). Out of a 1988 3.8L Buick Centur.. This got me thinking that without trying it got that good of mileage. If I had a mpg gauge I should be able to do better. The Buick does have OBDI.

So.. I am looking for some help/ guidance in either fabricating a gauge, or if there is some commercial that could be made to work. Thanks for the help.

If you have a laptop with a stereo sound card you can use this trick..

Do some searching of this forum and on google. There's a few solutions to your problem.

In my sig there is a link for a fuel rate meter, which hooks up the same way as fumesucker's great idea for using a laptop. It doesn't log data and doesn't show you a graph, but it does give you instant large-print numeric feedback in the form of a gauge if you hang the meter on your dash.

Also search for SuperMID.

IT looks like i am going to do a combo of the above options. While scrounging around i was able to pick up a PIII laptop. That has a DMM interface port and software. So hopefully it will become a Dwell graphing display. Later on the plan would be to have the the software to compute mpg.
