My mileage on this tank is going to suck...

Because I'm using my Escape Hybrid as a generator...

Storms knocked out our power last night, a tree fell on one of my vehicles, and now they're saying we're supposed to get hit with another storm tonight, and they're telling us it may be as long as a week before the power is back on. The whole neighborhood looks like a war zone. Every yard has huge tree limbs scattered all over the place, a few houses have trees in them, and a tree also fell on my neighbor's Jeep, and the Deputy that lives down the street, his cruiser was under a tree this morning too.

The only way I'm getting on the internet is I have an extension cord plugged into the 110V outlet in the console of my Escape, and I have it run inside where I'm powering a lamp, a window fan, and my laptop. The internet connection is supplied by a cell phone plugged into the computer via a USB cable. I think its doing pretty good, its been idling about 12 hours today, and its only used a little under 2 gallons of fuel (as per the Scangauge)

Nice! Props for creativity! I see you opened the hood to keep the engine cool and prevent the radiator fans from turning on and eating up extra power.

Yeah, I heard the radiator fans running while the engine was not, so I raised the hood. The fans ran a lot less after that.

but think of how much less power you're using overall since you don't have mains power at your disposal...lamp, laptop, and fan are probably about all the provided 110 outlet can manage.

Glad you're OK, glad you've got coverage on the truck. I found out earlier thsi summer my father in law has liability only on his pristine 94 firebird with 35k

Yeah, but I didn't like the idea of throwing out half of what was in the fridge. It was unbearably hot, even with the one fan. I could only run a little fan. The big floor fan I have would not run, and of course, no a/c.
