Your Saturn has better gears than my VW.

In my VW:
1st until 7mph
2nd until 13mph
3rd until 20mph, or 23mph if going uphill
4th until 25mph, or 30mph if going uphill
5th...well I wish I had 6th, 7th, and 8th, considering the ratios I have.
Most of those shifts are done at 1500RPM.

I'm told the VX has decent torque almost like my car, and nice tall gears.

Downshifting doesn't damage anything if you do it right, but downshifting on the way to a stop is more likely to waste gas than save gas. Rolling through a green is definitely way better than stopping at a red.

its really hard to do a downshift to slow do correctly and it can wear your synchros if you don't do it right(I have read up alot on this), I just glide everywhere
I find that if im going 50mph and getting off the highway I can drop out of 5th
and glide to a stop without destroying my brakes constantly cause I use the secret extra brake on my ultra light saturn, yes power windows, ill actually throw all my power windows down to help me stop better, I hate feeling the pulse of the brakes which means I'm wearing them out..

I can't upshift at 1500 my car idles at 1050/1100 that would throw it below idle lol and probably sputter to a halt.
