^ well thats my first guess. i'd be interested to see what happens if you find any needed maintenance, and then another octane comparison

Only thing holding me back at the moment is wife and child expenses...

I think I will try another set of plug wires shortly, and check the new plugs (about 1.5k miles on them so far)...and if I am feeling lucky, pull the cap and check the rotor for wear. I have a gut feeling that the high underhood temps are taking their toll on the coil, and am seriously thinking exhaust wrap is in the future.
